Default 964 Exhaust heat shiled removal tricks???

Is their a trick or tool to removing the nuts on the exhaust and heat shields? Each time I loosen one it spins freely. It appears as though there is a nut on the back with a clip to prevent this but it's not holding.

Thanks
John

There is a nut. It is retained by a clip which rusts and allows the nut to spin free.

You'll need to cut those off with a dremel and replace both the nut and bolt.

I just came across this problem today when removing the shields to replace the rear shock aborber..
Question is, now that I have re- attached it, it is vibrating and rattling.. is the heatshield absolutely necessary? It covers the cat and the headers which are fairly close to the left rear shock absorber...

You want to keep the heat shields...

For the fasteners...don't use the oem stainless fasteners when you reattach the shields. Go to McMaster carr and buy a box of steel speednuts and be done. Coat them with some high heat anti corrosion spray and whenever you have the shields off, just replace them as necessary..Cuz they will rust anyway...

The oem ones are horrible and the nuts always end up turning...and they are 10 dollars each...or some other rediculous price...
