Default Looking to buy a 964, my first 911

I am looking to join the 911 club and after looking through all the different 911s and their price points I have settled on the 964 as offering what I want at a price level I'm comfortable with.

I read the great thread on here about actual selling prices as well as watching eBay auctions. All of this research has lead to some confussion on my part in regards to two main things.

1) There seems to be a huge disconnect between asking prices and actual selling prices. Selling prices seem to be between $12,500-$22,500 for the most part but asking prices seem to be $20,000-$32,500. Can you talk these sellers down or are they just out of touch with the market?

2) It is very hard to figure out how much premium a mint low mileage car should command. In your opinion how much more is a car worth that is mint with say 45K miles then a very nice car with 80K miles? If the 80K mile car is worth $17,000 is the 45K car worth $1,000 more? $2,500 more? $10,000 more?

Thanks in advance

Geoff

It is worth what someone is willing to pay.

And there is nothing to say that you cannot find a nicer 80K car than a 45K.

At some point mileage becomes somewhat of a mute issue and it becomes about the car. More importantly the car more recent history.

Has it been kept up?
Doesn't it need anything?
Any mods?
What condition is the paint and body in?
What condition is the interior in?

You should be able to get a pretty nice 964 for $19-23K, obviously it's not going to be a Turbo, WB, Speedster, RSA, Cup Edition or a Super Lightweight.

And it's probably going to be between 80-125k for that money.

You can probably find a cheaper car, but as someone once said there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche. So it will probably have some issue that you will either want to address or they will address you.

Who wouldn't want a low mileage mint condition 964, but who wants to pay $35,000.00 for a 964 unless it's a special car, and there a number of special 964s that go way over that mark.

I think the price has more to do with condition of car then miles, but a low miles well maintained car is a premium. I think you will find here that guys that buy the 12k-15k 964 know or hopefully know they will need to put in a few 1000 to make it right.

I personally bought a low mile 964 that just had 29k in service records in teh last year. I paid towards the top of your price range, but I feel I got what I wanted in teh condition I wanted a less then 50k mile car with basically a complete mechanical overhaul.

so there is no magic number but miles don't scare me just high miles with no rebuild, top end build and shotty service history.
