Default Starter smoking

Hey guys,

I have problem with the starting of my car, or lack there of. I turn the key and the motor will turn, but in a... rear.....rear.....rear.... sound. Then there was smoke coming from the engine bay. Smelled like electrical smoke. My battery was checked out two weeks ago and is ok even with a battery tender hooked up to it. I'm thinkin' it's my starter that's going bad. Anyone with some advice?

Thanks,
Jamie

Does this happen all the time or only when the engine is hot; reason I ask is that my car was hard at starting but only when hot, sounded like low battery, but was actually the starter motor on its way out.

Engine is cold. I haven't ran it in a week. Just want to make sure it's a starter before I buy one.

I had the same symptoms, minus the smoke, and a new starter fixed it.

BTW, weren't you looking at a GT2? Ever pick it up?

Check the connections (i.e. the big wire carrying all the current to the starter) at the starter and the battery. Make sure you're getting at least 12 volts at the starter while it's cranking. It may be a frayed wire or loose connection and could save you the cost of a new starter and some time.

ChaseN, they are still making all the customizations to it. There's a long list of crazy modifications to make it truly awesome, as in alligator skin seats and such.

Darth, I'll check into that when I climb underneath it. Thanks.
