Preparing for DIY Suspension Upgrade
I've just received my new Bilstein HD's and my gently used H&R Greens and I'm getting ready to do my first DIY suspension upgrade. There is a great writeup on John's 964 Website that I plan to use as my guide. I am also getting help from a more seasoned auto DIY-er, who will be bringing the spring compressor for the job.
Is there anything I should know or tips-and-tricks that will be helpful in getting the job done without too many WTF moments?

Have some brake fluid on hand, and maybe a power bleeder if you have access to one. IIRC, you have to take the front flex lines off to remove the front strut. Would be a good chance to do a complete flush if you haven't recently.
EDIT: Noticed after the fact you've read a DIY guide. I'm sure that covered the brakes...d'oh.

Cut the brake pipe holder and you will have no need to bleed (saves time),

Even the RUF suspension upgrade has the cut.
Plusgas everything several times 24 hours beforehand.

Mike - can you post the link for the DIY guide. Also if possible do a short one up yourself. I'm will be attempting this in the spring on my 91 C2 and was hoping for some guidance/feedback.

I did this a few years ago. My advice is to inspect everything nearby while you have everything apart. I discovered worn strut bearings and some torn rubber boots on sway bar drop links on my car.

you will need a good breaker bar (pipe) to break the rear bottom bolts loose on the rear bottom shock bolts. They have over 300Ft/lbs of torque on them. Support the front brake hub because they will fall down when you take off the front springs. The bolts on the top of the shocks can also be a bear to get off when you go to take them apart. You dont really need a spring compressor. They dont have a lot of compression however it is safer. As said before cut the brake holder slot as if original the brake lines are probably corroded on at the fittings and will be messed up if you try to disconnect them.

or take the car to a local shop, and pay them a few bucks to reak the rear lower bolts loose for you then re-tighten. Saves a few hrs Also, I've done 3 suspension swaps; never broke the brake line seals; cut them.

When I did the suspension refresh, I ordered all new struts mounts, rubber stops, nuts, and bolts . The rubber stops on the old struts were torn and not reusable.
The biggest problem I had was tightening the top nut on the struts without a vice to hold them. I used a portable impact gun on the lower rear shock bolt and it worked like a charm. If not using a lift, jack the car up as high as possible and make sure it is safely placed on jack stands. Mark all the bolts and nuts after tightening to make it easier to see if they come loose. The lower nut on the rear blower housing is blind. Just feel for it and use a deep socket to loosen and be careful not to drop.
Good luck. It is not a bad job if you take your time.

Hi Nader,
I'd like to complete the job in a weekend so I need to plan ahead wisely. From the topside I'm pretty sure strut mounts are OK. Rubber stops not so sure but they are cheap to buy on PP. As for all other hardware do you happen to remember where you bought these and what part # they are?
