Oil Cooler Fan Running non-stop
I searched the forum for thread that deals with my issue and there wasn't one that dealt with an oiler cooler fan that runs continuously. Normally, cool oil is good thing, however, it 23f right now and I don't need extra cool oil, more importantly, the additional wear and tear on the cooling is what I am trying to avoid.
90 C4, the fan in front right part of the car operates continuously, from the time you start until the time you shut it down. I have my maintenance books out and I am trying to track down something that will point me in the right direction. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the fan runs non stop?
Thanks,
John

That is the failure mode for the system.... it locks ON to save your oil temp in case of a failure. I don't have the magic bullet for you, but search for oil cooler and resistor and see what you get. This also happens if line 16 from the CCU is open. You might have a faulty CCU (ugh) or maybe just a bad connection from it, or the resistor pack.

Yes, Climate Control Unit. It is the computer (well more like a transistor radio) that is behind the heating controls in the dash. the whole unit, ***** and temp sliders, etc slides out like a radio with these pins:

You'll notice two sets of holes on the CCU, one on each side on the edge.

Right now I'm banking on a relay, a resistor or something else inexpensive.
How does one fix LINE 16 in the CCU?
How and why does the air conditioner head talk to the oil cooler fan? I bet that clock has something to do with this.

Try the resistor and or the temp swicth on the fan housing, On the oil cooler It is a pain to get to.. I unplug mine in the summer to keep temps down, I put a turbo motor in... Like when she runs cooler than hotter. Good when you hit traffic... When you unplug it the fan runs all the time... good luck.

That clock is the mother of all evil! I don't even like looking at it for fear that it will get mad at me and start throwing electrical gremlins into my life.
I did order a relay and a resistor from Porsche. I will hold of one the temp switch for more fun at a later date.

Here is a ton of info on the fan operation.....

Replacing the oil cooler fan resistor is only an hour job. Did it myself last night
