Default Questions about using the 993 Engine Mounts

The engine mounts on our 1990 C4 need to be changed -- there's about a 1" gap in the mounts and from what we've seen in other Rennlist posts - they're toast.

We've also experienced a recent significant increase in the noise level in the cabin as well as some vibration.

We use the car as a daily driver and are considering either the 964 or 993 mounts. Would like opinions if we go to the 993 mounts, whether or not we have to stiffen the engine carrier?

We appreciate the experience of others who have gone before us!

Generally only very stiff or solid mounts and or track applications require the reinforced carrier.

have replaced my worn mounts with 993 c2 mounts. no stiffer than the originals, so no need to reinforce the engine carrier. much cheaper than original 964 mounts at the moment. only change is that the triangular washer will need to be replaced by a circular one.

A problem you may run into is when the nuts that connect the engine mount to the carrier are removed, the carrier end bosses will twist and have to be straightened before the new mounts are installed. This will weaken the carrier in that area, therefore the choice to reinforce the carrier. I did it using the Rennline kit, not necessary, but peace of mind as far as I am concerned. I also installed the 993 C4 engine mounts and have no complaints.

If you don't have any of the problems Steen mentions above.....changing the mounts could be done in half an hour. Original 964 mounts are about £400 a pair. 993 ones are about half that.

Fitted 993 mounts myself, just under £200 for parts from Porsche, as already said about half hour install and different washers will be needed. Very straight forward. Don't believe much differnt to 964 mounts with regard harshness etc. Most noticable is the fact that they are new!

Consider factory RS mounts. Bomb-proof simple and add only the slightest amount of motor 'grumble' when at idle.

Andreas
Way cheaper than standard 964 mounts as well (in the UK anyway) and not far removed from the 993 option

Are RS mounts harder or softer than Wevo's?

My guess is softer. RS mounts use a stout rubber bushing, while the WEVOs use polyurethane inserts.

I considered the WEVOs, since their machining is top notch, but in the end opted for the proven simplicity of the RS mounts.

Wevo's (used) are about $250 which include either fresh black or blue pillows. They come up for sale occassionally. I found mine on Pelican a few weeks ago, and couldn't be happier.

We want to thank everyone for weighing in -- we just ordered the 993 mounts from Sunset. Will provide an update once we've done the job!

Actually if you look up the 993 assembly there are no washer on it.
