Rattle underneath car when shutting doors
I am experiencing a rattle near the passenger side rear tire when I shut either door. I jacked up the car but I needed a second person to shut the door while I looked around. Anyone have any suggestion?

Is it a rattle or a clank clank? The heating system has some dampers that will make noise when you shut the car door, if your windows and sunroof are shut. Try opening the a window and repeating the test by closing the door. Does the noise go away? My guess is it does. If that's what happens then don't worry about it. See #39 on picture below.

It's a metallic like light clanking. It sounds like it is directly on the other side of the passenger wheel when I had it jacked up. It sounds like it would be #39 I will try it with the windows down.
Thanks,
Ed

Some times the clank is more noticeable than other times. If you can isolate that that is the cause, I wouldn't worry about it. If its coming from somewhere else, then I would track it down just to be certain its not a safety issue (loose CV joints, etc).

I have always had the vent noise when closing doors. I have seen similar vents on other cars, and assume they there for the flow-through ventelation. Possibly it is to vent the internal pressure so doors close more consistently.

I may have had the noise the whole time but I normally keep my windows down in the garage to keep the fuel smell out of my cabin until I fix the fuel filler neck with the updated one. I had the windows up today to clean them. Glad to hear that it is nothing to worry about.

That gasket has gotten a ton of use.

The car only has 53k on it and is in great shape but it's 20 years old now...I am probably going to replace everything when I put her away for the winter.

this is normal, it is how the car vents upon closing the doors with all the windows/sunroof closed. there is a vent mechanism in item 39. my car does this all the time. i am not sure but there might be a rubber gasket that might have deterirated and making the noise louder as you have metal to metal contact but i have never seen the vent per say in my hands. i would not worry about it.
maybe if some one has one out of the car they could chime in.

This is funny as I also used to have this noise. I would open and close the door with my buddy lying under the car. We could both hear the noise but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Can't say whether the noise was only there with the windows and sunroof closed though! Cars been sold in the meantime so I can't really check anymore!
