"I would say the goal is to have a great awd system that gives you the benefits of awd with the handling of a C2."
Eh ?
Are you driving on public streets ?

Late or left foot braking does unlock the diffs and thus eliminate some understeer on slow speed/tight radius turns. It's one of the secrets in driving a C4 well on track.

You can drive smoothly at 10/10ths If it engages but doesn't cause nasty understeer or other bad traits but just gives drive to the most approriate wheel where's the problem?

The only thing you can't do with a c4 is have fun doing big powerslides... but that's not about being fast, it's about messing around.

Actually you can, but it will cost you a transmission - the owner of this car is a rennlister

Yah I know about the left foot braking trick, it is a good one to learn on the C4.

@Tuscany, the problem is that the system doesn't work to send power to the appropriate wheel at all. It's not that advanced unfortunately. It just locks up the center diff to make sure the car doesn't spin when it senses the rear wheels moving faster than the fronts.

@Velocity, If I had to say I would say that his center diff lock took out the tranny when it failed, but I easily could be wrong. With the center diff lock not working, the tranny and awd drive train should be able to take that abuse I would think. Do you have any more info on him or the car and what happened?

Yes I had seen that and on occasion have gotten mine seriously sideways with lots of wheelspin at the rear. But the car wants to realign itself and it is more abuse than fun. As I said before it is not a fun car to powerslide IMHO. A lot more fun to get the back coming round on entering the turn and then getting on the power hard and early.

Powerslides like that are not the fastest way around the track!

Pulling the PDAS fuse also disables the ABS.

Yah I have seen that thread. Pretty cool, but also very simple. Along the same lines of what I was thinking, except use the current pump and electronics and just make it all electrical, that system is mechanical. Plus I would get ride of the center diff adjustment, I dont think it's needed.

I know that is not the fastest way around the track lol

I'd be curious to know what you come up with. Keep us posted

True, but I suppose that's the point - why overcomplicate when a proven solution is (was?) available. This was basically the system used by the factory and 'copied' by Ruf at least through the CTR2. Plus the system is adjustable, you can set it with a far greater rear torque bias if you choose.

You could try calling around some of the more established shops with race experience in the C4.

But it sounds like you'll just have to get your hands dirty and blaze the trail. Sounds like a cool project, let us know how you make out!

In both Auto-X and track driving, I have not yet had the PDAS system engage. It's my understanding, that a light tap on the brakes will disengage the PDAS.

My trans did not fail because of this, i damaged the first gear launching the car and the bolts for one of the axles in the back snapped,, and it bruced? the chrome in first gear... that's why i bought a replacement trans couple of years ago

The C4 can handle a alot of abuse
