1990 C4 Valve Adjustments
I had my car fitted with shocks and springs about 2000 miles back. Quite pleased with the outcome. I asked the shop to check if I needed valve adjustments at 68k miles, bought the car at 58K in 2006. They said the valves sounded fine and I agreed. What are the subtle signs of a valve adjustment short of the car running rough. I'm not hearing any ticking so I assume everything is okay and the car runs great cruising and downshifting. Thanks

Ticking is always the most noticable.
Bad fuel mileage. |
Thanks MakMov, I'm good on both counts. Hate to fix anything if it ain't broke just because the manual says so. I'm sure if i tracked it, that would be a diferent story.

Ticking can tell you that the valves need to be adjusted. If a valve is too tight however, there will be no indication. This is more of a problem, because of the possibility of burning a valve. An adjustment/check every 15K is recommended.
