Had to laugh, however, at the unpredictability of old cars. Still a great drive though.

Love this, as I ran into this phenomenon all the time while I owned FIATs.

I know exactly what you are referring to, as I started my recent search thinking that I wanted a 993. With the market where it is today, I really had a lot of options. I totally got the 964 appeal...with a well sorted example, it checks all the boxes unlike any other generations. (it has so much character, but with a level of handling dynamics and sophistication that I consider just right) Not that I think that there is a wrong answer to it...I would love to have something like a 993 Turbo as well, for example...but ultimately, anything after this '64 will be in addition.

I know the feeling. The spoiler wall was one of the first projects I did when I got my car.
It's an old car and just requires lots of attention.

Is the second picture in front of Unicell on Industrial St at Laird?

Didn't know the name of the company but that's the location. Some neat old warehouses around there. Not many left in Toronto...

I had a 993 in front of me yesterday and couldn't stop drooling whilst eyeing up its rear-end. An hour or two later the same car passed me going the opposite direction on its return trip, followed by an early 911. The 911 was maybe 20-30 years older than my 964 but reminded me of all the Porsche's I drooled over as a kid, with its gorgeous round headlights and stovepipe fenders...I knew immediately which one I really wanted to take home! Don't be seduced by those wide hips, the 964's the one you want to marry!

ha the same piece of trim came loose on mine in exactly the same fashion. It's been sitting in my trunk while I was figuring out where the hell it's supposed to attach back on!

Normally I'd agree with this statement but yesterday I went for a "short" drive in a GT3... the demons are jumping all over me now. Forget the 993 the only way to go after, or even better in addition to, a 964 is GT3...

Congrats! Mine should be delivered at the end of October Maybe we're all crazy but you're looking at 993's and I'm looking at MX-5 Na's to pick up now as his first car... 18 years from now! I want him to experience a FR with proper clutch, gearbox and sub 1000kg weight on a gasoline powered car before they don't exist any longer.

Good point. Mayne I should get "him" a 1993 Mustang 5.0LX...

As for the GT3...was it a 996? Those are so raw, so pure. They''l f'n kill you if you're not careful. True sports car if there ever was one.

I appreciate you reading between the lines... "his" car is perfect for enjoying the area we live in, I think he really wants an open top car to enjoy the mountain roads

The GT3 was a 7.1 (non club sport) and is even too civilised for me. You could easily use it as a DD or even to cross continents on a regular basis. Never thought >400 bhp could be so accessible on tight, twisty mountain roads... frightening! It is nothing less than a weapon. My favorite pcar has always been a 964RS but that ship has sailed and I have to admit that as soon as I can afford a 6GT3 I'm jumping all over it. I'm still undecided between a 64 RS rep or a 6 GT3 but I'm pretty sure my present 64 C4 will be up for sale soon even though I love it, it feels 250Kg too heavy for me... mind you the 7 GT3 could lose a bit of weight as well if I have to be picky.

I think you can easily loose some stuff on your 964

Like backseats? who needs them (as long as you have no young kids)
Or second muffler ( go g-pipe!), etc.

A 996 GT3 looks and drives very good, a 993 turbo looks even better from behind I think ( I love both of them).
A 964 from every angle a masterpiece, especially RS or RS-replica.
Next to that I really love a 964's rawness compared with the newer Porsches
and the ease to do maintenance and upgrade things on your car.

I agree with everything you say (except the bit about the 993 T which doesn't do much for me) but I still feel my 964 is not the right starting place. First of all it is far too nice a car to start messing around with - a highly optioned c4 with sunroof and full leather interior. There is no way I could lose over 200kg without converting it to 2wd or stripping it - and that would be a shame.

I would be better off selling it and starting with a '91 non sunroof, non airbag c2. Then I'd go for RS interior, brakes, bumpers, & windows KW V3 suspenders w/rs swaybars, primary bypass and 100 cell cat, MAF, LWFW, chip, RS wiring, no power anything or AC. I'd keep the rear seats (they don't weigh much anyway) and add a 1/2 cage and most importantly of all a 6 speed 993 close ratio gearbox with serious lsd.

The choice is between this type of 964 (aka money pit) or an original 6 GT3. For rawness, size and looks the 964 wins hands down. It seems like a joke but I think in GT3 would be the less expensive option...

I'm sure I've left out a few other bits like solid engine/transmission mounts etc. and I'm also sure an ageing 6 gt3 would need a few mods and replacement bits but I still think the 64 would end up costing quite a bit more...
