The totally Polar Silver thread (whites in particular keep out!)
Those other goddamn pretentious colours have their own threads, so it is about time we (the PS-ers) showed them all up--so load up and post your own PS, or find what's out there and put 'em up; let the show begin . . . .

Great idea Etom.
Sorry for the people in the background, but I do like this picture. Taken 3 weeks ago at the badlands just outside Drumheller Alberta. I have the headlight trim rings on now, looks a lot better. The second picture is from Glazier Park Montana at the summit and the third from somewhere in Idaho. PS. Just had 4 new tires (Continental Extreme Contact 225 45 17 255 40 17) and a full RS alignment and corner balance, man does it handle now. :biggulp::biggulp: |
I actually like the look of the black headlight rings....hope to be a contributing member around here soon. Looking at a silver C2.

Yeah, yeah, it's a torsion bar car. But I got the idea to do it from one of the Polar Silver RSAs that used to show up at the track! (I've got better pictures of the car, but this one was from just after 964s were out of production.)
|
are those cars polar silver http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y.../smiles_72.gif
i allways thought that this color was polar silver: https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3358...eb537076_b.jpg |
Polar silver has a faint hint of baby blue in it - arctis silver. my favorite silver does not. There are aslo zermat and metalic silvers that look a little platinum'ish.
|
I am sure that Polar Silver on 993s is 'bluer'. I know there are two codes for PS - perhaps they upped the blue for the later cars? My code is L92E - the E changed to something else for the later code, though if you try to get some mixed by a paint factor, they only recognise the L92 part - no variation.

Hey Kirby, worry not:
"Geezer is a term for a man. It can carry either the connotation of age and eccentricity or, in the UK, that of self-education such as craftiness or stylishness." i.e. you look like a bit of a geezer. |

SML, How about a shot of your car with the OZ wheels just like the one Etom posted in the picture above. I would like to play in Photoshop with different color wheels. It would be interesting to see what gold, silver, gunmetal grey or bronze would look like.
Thanks in advance  |

I looked at a 964 the other day that was a silver/light purple color depending on the light. Any idea what this color was called? The color has sort of grown on me, although I am a big fan of most of the early 911 easter egg colors from the early 1970's.

I thought the orange would look good and actually would have picked orange if they were in stock! |

Way off topic, but are there black Porsche center caps available? I'm kinda looking at those OZ wheels as well, wondering if I'd need to paint some center caps? |

Portiacraft, Correct.
Found them alright to deal with, car was as described. Travelled down from Scotland to get it, stayed down in the area for a week. Had a slight issue with the hood, they sorted it out with no issues at all. Would deal with them again  Cheers Al |

Polar or not polar?

Purposeful bump (to try to keep up)--what is worrying, though, is trying to figure out the various silver colour nuances. Sometimes it is hard to tell if indeed the it is the polar variation. For example, these attached? Polar or not polar: That is the question.

For something different, indulge me...
I remember visiting relatives in Austria during summer break in college in the early '90s. I was already a 964 fan back then (glad they FINALLY got rid of the impact bumpers) and stumbled across a "auto tuning" magazine with this car on the cover. I was totally fascinated with the modifications they had done. 600+ hp twin turbo, 200+ MPH, lightweight, etc. But it was the body mods that enthralled me. 959 lights, single wiper, narrow mirrors, wide fenders with smooth side skirts, and one piece rear wing. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Vj...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6e...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Nr...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/VY...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6L...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/y6...=w1024-h768-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cw...S=w902-h853-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/tb...W=w855-h853-no |

On topic: my 86 928 says "936 9 3 silbermetallic S7" on the door jamb. Would this be a precursor to Polar Silver? https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e0d41dfb30.jpg |
