Hi

I am after a little advice please (been lurking for a while :) )

If all things are considered equal - please bare with me - is anything not desirable on a 92 964. I have seen one, while mostly looking for 89 & 90 models at this time, and just wondered if they changed many things that were really costly to replace or real pain for reliability?

Seems a little vague and I understand if someone just replies with a simply no, but after searching under model changes/differences I couldn't find any relevant information.

A: Any repairs your pre-purchase inspection have (and have not) discovered are the only things undesirable with a '92 911.

A (Part II): The parts for the 964 are (for a given part) among the most [if not The most] expensive of the 911 family. (Reason: smaller production run + 964-specific designs sometimes make for pricier parts.)
Not a killer, but it can get discouraging till you build up a callus seeing "the same" 993 and 3.2L parts listing for 10-50% less.

The later 964's have updates that the earlier cars don't. The one item that I don't like on the later cars is the aero mirrors. I prefer the flag-style. That's the only downside that I'm aware of.

Ordered a couple of books including the above, also picked up the tech data bentley book for light reading!

Its the 964 and only the 964 for me, but if they didn't have anything odd like a redesigned clutch housing that only takes a special low production clutch run at ......cost. then all is fine.

I have missed a few so just need to take my time and make a well informed decision based on the many threads that are on here with advice.

Adrian's book is an excellent source of information. What you will most likely find is that your maintenance costs will be a strong function of your car's pedigree. Most (if not all) key critical issues can be discovered in a thorough PPI by a reputable shop. That's actually your best insurance.
