Derek, dont get me wrong the 993 are great cars. But I guess when you go from a 964 to a 993, eventually im sure you will return back to a 964. In my view, they have more of an edge with its shape, its agile chasis and presence. The 993 seems to be more grownup, mature, more refined clumsy and less look of a racer.

I also had a 964, then changed to a 993 c4s (and put on LM wheels also!), and recently went back to a 964 C4. I found the 993 is less expensive for maintainenance (except they eat through rear tires like it's going out of style -- so, maybe it ended up being a wash overall maintenance cost-wise), as others mentioned has more high end power with the varioram, and I do miss the 6 speed transmission. In the end, I think I just prefer the more classic shape of the 964 and just feel that the build quality is 'slightly better' (hard to put an exact finger on this...964 just feels slightly better put together and have had less smaller/annoying repairs...maybe that's just been my good luck with 964's I have had and bad luck with the 993). They have all been amazing cars though and you really can't go wrong with either. Your 964 does look amazing though and you 'know it'...there is something to be said for keeping a car which you know has been well maintained versus the unknown of buying a used car (even with a PPI) -- although this is coming from someone who used to buy different cars almost every year. Good luck with your sale and change!

My 2p worth,,,
993's are a wonderful car but they do lack the 964 sort of skin tight feeling and the sort of German strong as hell feeling that the controls are made of steel.
I have driven lots of Porsche's and as they get newer they get heavier with gadgets and a sort of lighter feeling of control cheaper made components etc.
The 993 was made with more automated processes than the previous cars that's why Porsche was skint in the early 90's too much labour time assembling the early cars.
Hand built or Robert the robot it's your choice I would buy a 993 but please drive the two cars back to back and you will feel what I am on about its like my mates 964 cup car compared to the standard coupe shell they feel world's apart.
I love the 964 any, but the Turbo 3.3 is the next move from the 3.6 you have, as it's mental power and the same lovely rigid feel go drive a good turbo and you will buy.
But whatever you buy I am sure it will look great as the coupe is lovely.

1990 964 carrera 4 targa 250 bhp
1992 965 turbo2 x55 375bhp

My experience echos those of Nski, drjsuh and screamingflat6. While the 993 was more comfortable and had better a/c there was something missing IMO. The 964 is a more raw experience, which was ultimately what I was looking for. A 993 makes a far better daily driver, but for a fun weekend type car 964 works better for me. Plus a nice 993 is significantly more costly to buy than a comparable (non-RSA) 964.

Derek, you could "store" your wonderful 964 at my place while trying to sell. This would enable you to take delivery of that "other" car. Just trying to help you understand. (Trying to figure out how to justify 3 911s at this point..............)

Better still own both! that was my plan to own both, until another 964 came along oh well, better still it puts me off another year to plan if I want a 993, or will it be a 996 turbo, or a GT3, or a 997 then? A year old, a year maturer

I've owned both 964 and 993. The 964 was great fun, but had major reliability issues.
The 993 has more power,no serious engine issues, 6 speed gear box, better looking body, better brakes, better suspension. The 964 has primitive suspension, ugly plastic body kit and massive reliability issues. There really is no contest.

ginch:
Marc, at Alpine has been servicing my 993 for 2 years now, and he isn't the least bit fazed about the SAI issue, or setting kinematic toe. I just had new suspension installed and setting it up was straight forward.
I get Sumitomos now, and my tire bill has dropped dramatically.
GLWS.

I'll never sell the RSA, but will most likely be trading my 997.1 for a 991 whenever that comes out. The newer cars are just so competent.
I have not gotten the 993 bug, though I have had seat time with a few, and have seriously considered a 993 TT prior to purchasing the 964. (price delta was not a factor whatsoever)
They are nice cars, but decision on which 911 is so subjective, especially for the older cars. One can pretty much rationalize for any particular model based on the individual's criteria.
My next 'addition' will certainly have to be a long hood though.
