My 964 just stopped firing this morning on start
New problem I need some assistance with my 1990 C2 Convertible. This morning after about 10 years of faultless starting I turned the key to find that the car turned over but did not fire. I tried a number of times before running through the normal check list of obvious things like Fuse, Flooding etc but funny thing is there was no gas smell from the engine or the car at all considering it has a full fuel tank. Even after prolonged pumping of the gas pedal there is still not smell of gas. Could anyone pinot me in the right direction of obvious things that cause this kind of problem: Fuel Pump, Coils, Distributor caps or O2 sensor etc.
Also would a failed fuel pump also be able to inform the EMU that it has failed and not to fire as there is no fuel present in the chambers?
Any help would be great and after my last post and the full feedback I received regarding stalling and no idle the step by step graphical guide regarding cleaning all the air flow assemblies around the fuel injection system proved to be a real winner.
P.S. Not at all afraid to get hands dirty in trying to accomplish all this myself unless the feedback indicates that a trip to the shop would be the appropriate action
Thanks

If you give the car one shot of starter fluid , will it fire on the starter fluid ?

If you have not done the DME relay replacement , try that before you do anything else .

Stupid Question..... What is the IIRC? how can I test the fuel pump? finally, I just found out that my wife may have allowed a small amount of hot coffee to spill under the passenger seat recently. Would that have an effect on this symptom?

Assume it's something simple: weak battery, corroded battery connections, corroded ground cable, bad DME relay, out of gas, etc.
Then check DME relay either by bridging the contacts as per above or simply replacing it (you should always carry a spare; they're notorious for going bad). If not that, pull a spark plug and check it for wetness (smell it, too). If not gas on spark plug, and you're not out of gas, you could have a fuel-delivery problem (fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, etc.). If you have a wet plug, check for spark at the plug. Spark color should be blue and no other color. If you don't have spark, or have a weak spark (red, yellow or orange in color), then you probably have a bad coil or coils. If none of these, I'd suggest taking it to a Porsche specialist.
To check for fuel pump, Turn the key to ON but not START and listen for the hum from the fuel pump. If you don't hear it, then change the DME relay.
