Default Snow, snow

I was thinking off buying a 964 Carrera C4 as a daily driver winter toy. Here in Sweden we have a lot off snow in the wintertime….my question are winter tires….or more exactly the rims! I can’t go with the same width as on the summer tires, so how do you do it….how about 4 x front rims with adapters at the back? Then I can ride on 205 tires?

Just use stock D90 wheels( 6" & 8" I believe) with 205/16 front, and 225/16 rear and winter tires.

+1 - That's what my C4's owners manual recommends

Okay boys...that will work...but what about the looks.....D90!......It´s like a armani suit and sneakers. Dont you think a pair with front Cup´s and spacer will do it?

If you keep the offset in the 50-55mm range, you can fit anything, 6, 7 or 8" rims.
Here in Switzerland, the Porsche center offered 6&7 D90s with 205 and 225 tires.

I can easily see the use of 4X 205 on 6 or 7" rims if snow is in greater quantities.

As for looks, well, it is all a matter of taste, but I think snow tire performance trumps looks in the snow. Here I have better choices in 16" therefore my winter setup is 7&8X16 flat dish rims off a 944 Turbo, with 205/225 tires.

If you change the rear tire width are you not losing grip at the rear ?
Will that not upset the handling ?
Will not the car go from neutralish to oversteer ?

If you use 205/225, there is no change on dry roads.
Going to 4X205 would be for the really bad conditions, where you have snow for 4 months non stop on the roads, and grip is better with narrower tires.

On pure ice, only studs work.
On hard packed snow, the narrower the tire, the better the grip.
Frankly, even here where we can have weeks on end of white roads, 205/225 work very nicely, The rear engine is a real bonus when going uphill.

It is a visual call, but I don't mind the look of D90s on the car. Especially when you might run into curbs or other kinds of winter damage... They're cheap and plentiful here, so there's beauty in the solution.
