I'm a total neophyte when it comes to this stuff so I appreciate any help.

I've been using the search but not sure.

I boosted the car. It was idling very rough. Went to take it for a spin (to better charge the batter) and it conked out dead. Boosted it again. Moved it 10 feet back into my parking spot and died again.

Sound like the alternator?

Take the battery out and charge it fully .
Put it back in , does the car/motor run ?
If it does run , check the voltage at the battery while the motor is running .
Does the voltage show alternator output or not ?
