Default Oil Thermostat Cover

I have been reading some past posts on replacing the oil thermostat on the 964 but not many with regards to the the oil thermostat cover plate. I tried to remove mine the other day and that thing does not move after removeing the C Clip. Can anyone one chime in on how you removed yours.

Thanks

After the cir-clip is off you might have to push around the circumference of the cover plate so that it works itself free. The cap fits snug but can move a tiny bit because of the cir-clip grove and the rubber o-ring. I used a knife blade to push on the cap and it moved over a fraction and popped out.

As you can see in the picture below, the spring should normally push the thermostat plate out...you'll have the other problem when you put the clip back on. Then you have to fight the spring, o-ring and the cir-clip all at once. Someone on the forum suggested using a small clamp () on the cover that is also secured from the backside. It's really not that bad, but as usual I didn't have the right tools...

Took rather more than a little persuasion to remove the thermostat cover on my car. After some frustrations attempting to be gentle and kind, it took a flat bladed screwdriver and a hammer to get the cover to start turning and then pop off.
