964 intermittent stalling problem

Can anyone help! My 964 keeps cutting out when i dip the clutch, the car restarts and will tick over but hesitates with loss of power. The car will then appear normal pulling strongly through the gears occasionally hesitating as if the power to the engine has been cut. This is an intermittent fault and will often only occur once the car has been running for a long period. Any ideas, i would really appreciate your help. Regards Nick

There's quite a few posts already regarding this type of issue, use the search function and you'll find some very useful information.

If it is not the DME relay issue (search for this if you are not familier) the next suspects that are relatively easy to check are 1) good connection at the netagive terminal battery ground strap at both ends 2) The wiring to the Air Flow Meter connector behind the AFM sometimes shorts out on nearby hoses causing your symptoms. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) issued by Porsche that describes a procedure to correct this issue.

I hope this helps start you on the right track to find the issue. Search is very useful on this subject, good luck.

I had almost identical issues as you desribe that I resolved with the TSB that gchristofi mentions - it's also dead easy to do and I managed it in a field at the Le Mans 24 with a few cable ties. You only need to dismantle the air filter to be able to reach the offending hose.
You can find it here:

Hope this helps

Had the same symptoms a year or so back. Cleaned and soaked with WD40 the main earth from the battery to the body work and that sorted it. Later replaced the earth strap with a new one. Been fine since.
