Ping and pop are two different sounds .
Does your car go "pop" ?
Does your car go "nack" ?

What is the spec on your chip? I had a bad Autothority setup that promoted pinging, the mapping was off for certain RPMs. A Steve Wong setup compensated for that, and now no pings.

Also I keep an eye on the temps. During the spring season for some reason its worse, as the fuel blend is in transition from winter to summer.

The guards around my Cat "ping" all the time due to expansion and contraction, even during operation, not just when the engine is cooling down. Might check that.

Hi,

I don't know where you live or what octane fuel you use so its difficult to offer any constructive suggestions.

With more information about your engine, its fuel, whether its chipped, what exhaust system you have, how many miles on the engine since rebuild and precisely what they did, its much easier offering assistance in resolving this.

One would also need some details about when you hear the noise: part throttle? low or mid-range RPM, full throttle??

Assuming that you are not hearing a mechanical rattle from a loose exhaust system component, if you only hear this when its hot outside, I'd kindly suggest that you open the ECU to see whose chip you have. Some of them have too much timing for hot weather.

Don't forget to check the distributor drive belt.
