3.8 RS Rear Wing & Front Splitter?
Hello all,
I track a 1993 RS America. I am thinking of doing the upgrade to a 3.8RS rear wing/decklid for added downforce and to lose some weight at the rear of the car. A few questions:
Any idea how much weight difference it is from the RSA factory decklid/wing with the fiberglass setup? Carbon Fiber?
Any advice on a good front splitter to balance the added downforce?
I have always liked something subtle up front, such as the 964 RUF chin spoiler, but it doesn't look like it would provide much downforce. Any thoughts?
Thanks for any input everyone,
Roland

Well, I could be wrong, but the Ruf lip reduces the air that goes under the car, which would reduce lift, and maybe create a lower pressure area than without it, which would provide downforce indirectly? I doubt that any of them actually do much, except look cool. I am considering doing a different rear spoiler myself for the same reasons, I currently have a factory turbo tail, which I'm sure is heavy. So I'm interested in seeing the weights as well.

Same boat as you, went with MaShaw set up for 3.8 tail
I am sure Mike could give you the weight

I have Cargraphic version of the 3,8 RS front lip. They claim that it will add 6 or 8 kg (I don't remember right now) of extra downforce at 200 km/h. I think the front end has a little more grip in sweeping high speed corners on track....but it could be a "brain effect" to!

That Cargraphic piece looks really nice. I like the styling. The GT2 type front spoiler is pretty extreme. Would probably be good for a track setup but I don't know if I would want to run it on the street. Any thoughts on downforce with that compared to the RS front lip?

I have the 3.8 RSR "winglets" attached to a Factory valance. If you're concerned about road clearance, it's not a bad way to go. Listed on page 24 of the Getty Design catalog. It's secured with rivets.

Roland, we had a customer that had the exact car as yours that club raced on a regular basis. Bob had made a proper splitter that was adjustable with turn buckles. Car was not street driven though.
