tie rod toe adjustment???
Hey guys i have never done this so bear with me, i reassembled my front end but the left front wheel is turned inward to the right when the steering wheel is straight, i need to get it straight enough just to drive it to a shop to be aligned. How do you adjust the toe?? I tried turning that shaft that is connected to ball joint at one end and steering rack at other but the shaft just moves left or right and wheel does not move.
Does the shaft need to be locked down at the steering rack end?? Does the steering rack end rotate as well???
Thanks

The tie rods work like a sailing turn buckle. Loosen the jam nut and then turn the tie rod. It will either lengthen or shorten the rod length. Adjust both sides until they have the wheels parallel.

One more "lay man" description. Its for a VW bug but the concept is the same. http://www.vw-resource.com/toe_in_adjustment.html
