Default Bilstein HD Install Question

I have bought the HD and reds. Now to find time for install. Do you order new hardware (bolt, upper mounts, etc,) or just use the existing one? I prefer to use new. Can I order OEM or is there another source for Bilstein?

The rest of the installation uses the factory parts (not Bilstein specific). I changed my upper mounts. My upper bearings felt gritty. I felt it was best to replace. I reused the rest of the hardware. I purchased my upper mounts from EBS Racing but you can get them from your favorite Porsche factory parts supplier.

Thanks,

I am struggling to find time to do this, especially since I'll be doing it on my back cause i do not have a lift. I think it is a good time to replace things to make it as smooth as possible.

I did mine without a lift too. I raised the car up on 4 tall jack stands. It was a relatively easy job. I finished in a weekend. Note: I had the engine out at the time, so it was easier to reach the rear shock upper mounts.

I just redid my suspension, i took my time because im waiting on other parts to get here for my engine, but its really straightforward and not too difficult. I used most of the old nuts and bolts but did by new hats, cause the bearings were shot. The manual does say to use new bolts and stuff though.

Nice pics....hey, are those Goodridge SS breake lines? If so, were they direct replacements to the factory rubber ones? Same ends?

I hope the link to PET works. The relevant illustraions are 402-00 and 502-00 in front and rear axle sections. I have decided to replace everything.

http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...SA_KATALOG.pdf

Front

The support mount on the 93 MY looks like the one on the left (#2). Question is, do I need the rubber stop (# 5) and concave washers (#4 and #7)? I think that Bilstein has inner bump stop, but I think I need these washers.

Rear

The support mount on the 93 MY looks like the one on the right (#10). Question is, do I need the items #4 through #8 and # 11?

BTW, Going with H&R sways and Tarret drop links. Anyone has experience with using them with HD/reds combo?

Help is appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I realize that this is an old thread. Could you list the part numbers of the items recommended for replacement? The pet just brings up page one.

Thanks,

Jim

I just did this job on mine, and reused most of the hardware. The Bilsteins come with new nuts. The rears are internally bumpered, and the fronts come with boots. My rear mounts were in perfect condition, the fronts, probably should have changed the fronts as the bearing was marginal. I will go back in and change the front mounts here in the near future.

You do not need the stop or the boot.

What I did get all new was all the plastic wire mount/clips, which there is 3 per side and they were not that expensive. I also had to replace the front brake lines which were frozen - also not terrible expensive - about a $100 for the lines and all the mount/clips. 21,11,12

I had to get some stright line and bend it up myself as a tempory fix until the factory ones show up, and I got some SS hoses that I will do when those lines come in.
