Default Steve W chip and poor fuel

I'm not sure if Steve still frequents this place but I wanted to know something important. I have a SW chip on the way but it is for 98ROW. While I always use 98 here I have heard that the official porsche dealership have tested the petrol here and the quality and octane is quite poor compared to that in europe etc. Although I can't be sure how it varies the foreman told me that the 98 came out as 94 in one test, or something similar.

The aftersales manager told me that they have started using Porsche-approved fuel additive. I'm not sure if this will solve the problem or not...

So the question is, do you think it is safe to use the SW chip made for 98ROW? Or shall I ask Steve that I can send it back and get the 95 chip instead?

I would send him an e-mail and ask him to make a 95RON chip for you. Given your climate, you would be unwise using a 98RON chip with the lower octane fuel.

Will the real Steve W please stand up?

I think you are right, much safer to send back the 98row chip and get a 95. Might cost a little performance but I would rather have reliability on my side...

And Steve Wong is super cool at making adjustments. He'll take care of you... and so will Steve Weiner.

Why the hell was I constantly calling it ROW instead of RON? Lol, anyway, I emailed 911chips.com with all the details hopefully it will be a smooth swap. Thanks guys and also thanks to Mark Lintott for sharing his experiences with poor petrol and Steve W chip in Taiwan...
