front windshield seal rust repair

7 Attachment(s)
finally got some time to post photos of the windshield seal rust repair i had done in january.

the guy i used has been doing high end autobody work for 30 years and offered to do my car for $750 and i paid for the OEM seal.

his work is unbelievable and the color match is perfect.

when he removed the windshield he found some rust on the passenger side of the seal area and repaired that too...

here are some before and after photos...

Nice work. I did the same thing, but also opted for a new honest-to-God Porsche windshield, and the seal too.

It feels good to have it done... and the work was a similar price, but once you add the glass and the seal, it cost me closer to $1400.

He did do a nice job, can't tell it ever needed to be fixed.

Looks super !!!!
I'm about to do the same thing (got one spot so far..) but still looking for a good shop here in Chicagoland's NW Suburbs ...
Enjoy !!

Looks great and great deal on price, especially given the quality of the repair.
Good information, as a surprising number of 964 need cleaning up in this area?!

(that's info. I was searching for in my previous PM, thanks.)

Had the same thing done in MA by a "high end" body shop for $800 a few months ago. The main concern by the shop was that the windshield might crack when they remove it. Did not happen. It seems this is often happens with other models where the glass is under greater stress.

Looks like they did a very good job. I had the exact same thing done in Dec 2009 with new windshield & seal, a respray of the rear deck and a small paintless dent removal all for about $2k.

The rust was more extensive than what was thought and required the areas to be cut out with new peices welded in. My windshield was original (158k miles) and was so pitted and scratched I just opted for a new one. The shop found no other areas of corrosion.

my windshield was replaced by the previous owner and is in excellent condition so i didn't need to replace it however my autobody guy did mention that they sometimes break when removed....i bought the OEM porsche seal at pelican parts

theres a rennslist member in seattle who needs this rust repair done so when i mentioned it to my autobody guy he said he can't do it for the price i paid because the repiar took alot longer.

i would say any repair in the $1000-$1200 range would be a good deal.

my 95 993 had the same issue and was repaired by previous owner at a high end shop in san francisco

I had the same issue with mine, rust bubbles in the bottom right corner. The bodyshop i went to had a windscreen "specialist" come in to remove it. The guy managed to break it when taking it out. He ordered a new one and broke it putting it in. In the end i went to another specialist and gave them a hand putting it in. I dropped the top which gave it a bit more flexiblity. Thankfully no more breakages!

Nice repair! Mine needs this as well. I am holding off until next year as this year is engine rebuild. I will replace the windshield as well since it is pitted so bad at 83k.
