Can drilled discs be skimmed?

I'm in need of getting my front discs skimmed - the car has not moved for six months or so and the inside face is also a little uneven, so I'd like to get them surfaced before refitting with new pads. I just cannot afford the £400+VAT for a pair of new 3.3 Turbo/RS Porsche discs.

My discs are not worn very much, so I thought it would be fairly straight forward to get them done. However, the problem is that the usual local companies that I get engineering work done at won't skim drilled discs. Is this a problem I'm likely to find everywhere else?

We have skimmed them on a regular disk machine with no issue. On the edge of the rotor is imprinted the minimum thickness.

Just spoke to Autofarm about getting mine done, so yes you can. They will do it on the car though.

Thanks Geoffrey, I'll check that tonight.

Yea i have had it done, but finding a place to do it is difficult, most you call will say "no we cant do crossdrilled rotors".......for some reason they are scared to mess with them.

That does appear to be what I'm finding, Jerry. :(

Ask around for a shop that does blanchard grinding .

Agree with Blanchard grinding. Turning the disc on a lathe as is customary is not a good idea on rotors with holes (cast holes in the case of Porsche). On the other hand you can grind/sand them flat without a problem. My dealer did it for me when my rotors were too rusty - stored the car for the winter and the rotors were not fully dry.

I have turned on a lathe, and still would if I had access to a lathe, whats the big issue with doing this?
