94 964 C4 WB from ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...NA%3AUS%3A1123

Seems like somebody got a pretty good deal here. Is this car known to any of you? Did any of you buy it?

Any other example of this beauty I have seen, have gone for much more $$. I don't have my $$ set yet, but I still felt like bidding when the price stayed low as it did.

Are there additional $$ to be paid to import a vehicle from Canada?
VAT?
Import/duty fee's?

I originally considered this model, because it combines my lifelong favorite vintage bodystyle 84-89, with C4 capabilities. I'm searching for a new DD here in Central New York...and I'm gonna spoil myself with a Porsche instead of my usual Audi. I kinda hated the thought of subjecting such a limited build beauty to the ravages of DD use here. So, I've kinda shifted my searches to a 993.

But, this was a deal it seems, unless someone has dirt on the car.

Anyone???

Seems very fishy...

I would be surprised if it is legit.

Carrera51 01-28-2010 07:09 PM

Since the seller mentions it was used in a movie , it could have been an extra car for the first Bad Boys movie. I doubt they used the 3.6 Turbo in the shoot out at the end.

1pcarnut 01-28-2010 11:38 PM

Wonder how many freeway off ramps it was launched?

garrett376 01-29-2010 12:13 AM

that car was for sale 3 years ago in Los Angeles with an asking price of $24,000...

garrett376 01-29-2010 12:15 AM

...with 60,300 miles at that time ?!

It had different gauges... black faced ones...

Magdaddy 01-29-2010 06:24 AM

It is an x hollywood car..ya sure that car for sale wasn't it's body "stunt" double?

Might be cool to run the vin thru carfax and see what comes up.

We may never know the answer to that. the car in the initial scenes was owned by the Director and later owned by a friend of mine who sold it to collector in NC. It was a 94 turbo with black calipers.

The car in the final scenes did have a turbo 3.6 emblem and it did have red vs black calipers of the turbo 3.6 used in the opening scenes. It is possible and would be interesting to find out if it was used and would answer some questions.

Many red flags but it could have been a good buy.

1. How easy was it to bring a Canadian car of that vintage at that time into and register in California?

2. How carefully are cars repainted for use in films?

3. How come garret376 recalls the same car for sale earlier with lower price and much higher miles?

4. I'm always a bit skeptical of cars with replaced gauge faces, unless I can be reassured by the seller that the swap was legit.

5. Porsches usually command a premium price in Canada over cars in the US. Not that Canadian prices are justified but it seems to be what the local market commands, so this example if legit was a pretty good price here in Canada?

6. Mileage documentation seems to be missing from Redcoat’s CarFax report.

7. Crappy auction photos of a high-end car that don’t give a clear indication of its condition.

However, with all that said, if I were in the market I would have taken a closer look to see if it was as nice as described.

I cut'n'pasted and omitted the mileage before, see below.

Your vehicle checks out! AutoCheck examined the reported odometer readings reported to AutoCheck for this 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 / Carrera 4 (WP0AB2965RS420176) and no indication of an odometer rollback or tampering was found. AutoCheck uses business rules to determine if reported odometer readings are significantly less than previously reported values. Not all reported odometer readings are used. Title and auction events also report odometer tampering or breakage.

Did this car show a full repaint last time it was for sale and it was really really rough too.

Magdaddy 01-31-2010 01:28 PM

anymore info?

just for grins and giggles, I contacted the seller thru ebay. If the winning bidder(with "0" feedback and only a handful of total bids on anything) falls thru, I told him I was interested. I didn't realize the car was just above Toronto, I'm just a handful of hours away in Central New York.

Anyway, thanks for the responses, I'll keep you all posted if I hear anymore.

to again ask though...are there import costs for a car from Canada? Is there an age of vehicle that that doesn't apply too? Just would like to know as I continue to look for my next money pit...
Thanks

I've watched BB again carefully ;) Car in the opening scenes (with black callipers) has also bagdes on headrests, the one with red callipers (at the end) hasn't. I've heard one of them was the Michael Bay's car. Maybe this one?

PS. Title theme is still GREAT ;)

Michael Bay's car was owned by my friend Mike, he sold it to a collector in NC it was the one with the crested seats and black calipers in the first scenes. This would have to be the second car if it were used in the movie at all. Pics of Michael Bay's car used in initial scenes.
