Aftermarket Radio Install
Looking to install an aftermarket radio in my 91 C2. For my Merc and BMW there was a wiring harness I could buy from BestBuy that plugged into the factory plug and the other end had the colour coded wires to attach to the radio. Makes for a very easy install. Does anyone know if that exist for the Porsche and the model number. Not going to do anything fancy, just a simple radio with Ipod connection.

I actually read that post when I did my search and it does not tell me what I need. I'm looking for the plug that connects to the existing harness in the car. The thread talks about cutting into and connecting wires, I don't want to do that. I think BestBuy sells one but they say it is the same as the VW one, which might be true not sure. The Crutchfield one requires me to connect a 12V constant, 12V power, Ground etc. Don't want to cut into the existing wires. Looking for the Metrics (I think that is the company) one and if anyone has had experience with the VW one.

Contact Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com) and I'm pretty sure you can purchase a harness from them. That is what I did when I installed my Alpine headunit. Good luck.

quite frankly - if you are going to do the head unit (radio/cd and mp3 or ipdock)....you would be best to also install new speakers - amp. the stock amp is weak and the speakers buzzy.
difference between aftermarket audio-stock audio is huge and that's a function of the amp/speakers.

then in my view - you should not concern yourself with adapting existing system to after market....in terms of audio aftermarket-never works especially since porsch stock system (amp and speakers suck)
wait until budget or whatever permits and do the complete system - will be cost effective in the end game and provide optimal package in terms of the upgrage.
cheers

again, my opinion do NOT do your audio system step at a time, determine what you want...head unit-speakers-amp-additional docking stations, then select components and go....you will not regret replacing stock components with aftermarket....speaking from top down cab owner who loves the Stones at freeway speed
