Default Broken Cruise cable

I've broken my cruise control cable. The little plastic sleeve circled in yellow is broken. This is causing my throttle to stick higher than it should as the cable comes out and the tension sticks it out a bit. The CEL comes on since the idle is stuck too high (2K RPM). As a quick fix, can I disconnect the cruise? Or tape it w/ some duct tape?

I would disconnect it until you have time to fix it. I use my cruise rarely (maybe once every 5 years). I prefer to "drive" my car, not ride in it.

Thanks. I'll find a way to tie it out of the way.
