Default 964 Targa USA Numbers

Does any body know how many 964 Targas were built between 1989 and 1994? How many came to the USA? How many were white?
Thanks.
Matt

Hey Matt. I think there are published numbers for Targas but I'm not sure how accurate they are (a search should get you the specifics). I have not seen a breakdown by color.

According to the numbers in Adrian Streather's book:
1990 - 158
1991 - 746
1992 - 211
1993 - 137 (last year for the Targa)

Actually, I think that last number was for the ROW cars. I believe the USA numbers are:

1990 - 158
1991 - 746
1992 - 211
1993 - 137 (last year for the Targa)

Mine is number 85 for 1993. I haven't seen any other Targas in Oak Green for that year. These are the last of the air cooled, "bug eyed", true Targas. For me, this is what I envision when someone says "Porsche".

Ditto that. I tried for a 93 964, but couldn't keep looking. Very happy with my 92 Targa. It was a positive selling point to know only 200 or so others were made for the USA.

Yes, you are correct; 137 for USA. I have a Signal Green '93 Targa and I have heard but can't verify that there were only 8 Signal Green 911's produced in the USA for 1993.

I just went through the 964 prices thread and saw just one other 1993 Targa. There was actually a 1994 in there too which seemed odd.

Steve/John: In theory there are only 348 Targas in 92/93/94. I know tracking them all down would be impossible but I sort of wonder how many we might be able to track down. I believe there is a 92 Oak Green Targa in town (another one down). Thoughts?

One place to check is the Pelican Parts Forum. Here is a thread on Targas:

I've been over there but didn't notice that thread. Very cool. I anticipate posting something soon. :-)

I was thinking about a thread that asks for something like

Owner (with RL user ID if applicable)
USA/ROW
Year
Color
VIN (duplicate of some of the above but...)
A picture of the build sticker or the like (to confirm the year, color, and options)

Is that too much to request? Is the VIN considered sensitive data (like a SSN)? To me it seems most of it is known anyway (except the build number)

Is this an impossible task? For me, Coupes and Cabs would be too much to take on but Targas...again...there are so few.

Should anything else be requested "while I'm at it"?

WOW! I didn't know they were that rare. I never gave it much thought. Maybe I'll start looking for a Targa instead of a cab :-)

Strictly my opinion, but I steered away from the cab since (1) I heard there was more trouble ($$) with that convertible top than the Targa top, (2) why have the back seats uncovered when no one sits there?, (3) the Targa does offer some form of roll bar protection. Again, that's just my personal preference - no knock against cab lovers at all.

I'm with ya Steve except my two kids actually sit back there and the Cab top seemed to eat into what little space there is. The open top and decent view of the Targa still makes it a little more fun for them. Plus they don't get as wind whipped.

I wouldn't mind one of every shape and color but for me this works nicely (since I can only have one).

Should be the last two digits of the VIN. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's technically the last four digits which give the serial number. Hey, I'm 95!
