Default H&R spacers

I am interested in buying spacers for my 964. I was thinking H&R spacers, 7 mm in the front and 15 mm in the rear. I called Shox.com and H&R and neither could verify that these were a direct bolt on. Can anyone verify if these in fact are a direct fit and also which series of spacers to buy, DR, DRs, DRA, DRM?

The 964 uses hub mounted studs to which the wheels attach. The H&R spacers to use would be the DRS range (for 6mm to 40mm) or the DRM range (from 40mm to 90mm). The DRS range require that you change the studs for the longer ones provided with the spacers. The DRM range have their own studs integral with the spacer. All of these spacers are a direct fit.

Regards

Dave

How involved is the changing of the studs? Do you need to remove the brakes (calipers + rotors) and/or the hubs?

To do it right you should pull the hubs to properly press out the old studs and press in the new ones. I have done it before tapping them out with a hammer and using an open ended lug nut and a spacer to pull them back in. It is a bit crude, but effective.

All the brakes have to come off to do it either way.

Thanks Pete! I have a set of HR 14mm spacer laying around, which I've been tempted to try, but did not think I would have enough skills to swap the studs. Maybe someday I'll get around to it... like I'll get around to adjusting the valves

I still envy the efforts you put into refinishing your engine area and doing the valves.

x2 on the hammer technique. i did this 2 weeks ago. lube them up with wd40 before you pound on them. its not the proper way but it was a piece of cake. hardest part was messing around with the parking brake to slide the read studs in. fronts were super easy.

We'll need to know the width and offset of your wheels before anyone can answer that question.

Without the numbers you cannot get a trustworthy answer. One person's standard is another's special. There are lots of Cup wheels - 7J, 7.5J, 8J, 9J, 9.5J etc. etc. with varying offsets. Precise questions get precisie answers.

With those size wheels it's not necessary to have ANY spacers. If you WANT to fit spacers the only restriction is going to be the outside of the wheel hitting the bodywork and with an 8" rear that's likely to need a pretty massive spacer before that happens. Given that the rear can accomodate a 10" wheel without too much trouble (an extra 1" further out albeit usually with a slightly smaller offset) I'd guess your rear wheel could accomodate anything up to a 20mm spacer.

Regards

Yep Dave, the plan is to space the wheels out so that they fill the arches - ATM they look a little bit weedy in there..
