Indy - no.4 is what I always threaten the local mechanics with.

"If you can't fix it you better tell me now, so I can fly someone in."

What weight is good for day to day driving? How's 10 lbs?

And I'm open to your recommendations for a flywheel... I'm guessing people here would have more experience selecting one for daily driving.

LIGHTWEIGHT FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLY 964/993
Replaces dual mass flywheel assembly
also referred to as "Carrera Cup Clutch Update"
AND 114 011 00
includes: 1 Euro RS Flywheel (note 1)
1 Pilot bearing
1 Release bearing (T/O)
1 Guide tube
1 Ring gear
9 Flywheel bolts
9 Clutch bolts (8 x 45 bolts)
Because of a possible 'IDLE' problem caused by the 993 DME not recognizing the lighter clutch mass a compensating weight installed in the fly wheel is offered. This part is a precise fit (for balance reasons) and is not sold separately.

Hilarious! Brunei is 2 hours by plane away from Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia, they should be able to pinpoint location better with that info.

Their site has a 89' Single Flywheel on sale as well. Listed as 435 but has the "make an offer" next to it.

I don't think you want an 89 flywheel .
The bellhousing changed and the dimensions changed and the starter changed etc etc etc
when they did the redo between 89 and 90 .
Its real important that you buy the parts that will work on your 92 .
Getting some miss matched parts will cause you nothing but headaches .

Do you use UPS or Fed Ex or something else for parts from the U.S. ?

USPS I think. That's how I've been receiving American mail. But FedEx works as well.

Maybe you could just ask the Sultan to give you one of his cast-off cars? I understand he's got plenty...probably wouldn't miss one.

Don't use USPS under any circumstances to this part of the world. Things have a way of being delayed for months or just disappearing when multiple governemt postal services get involved.

UPS or Fedex are better options. Be sure to check the charges vs the weight. One can be significantly better than the other.

Wolv,

I would also consider just replacing the the dual mass fly wheel with a new one. It is the simplest route and the new ones from Luk (?) are much better than the originals. Someone else can chime in if this info is wrong.

You will undoubtedly find other repairs that will come up in the next few months. IIRC your was sitting unused or minimally used for quite some time. Consider getting the car to a point where it is basically reliable before modifying. The light weight fly wheels are regularly discussed here and you may not have the appropriate resources in Brunei to tackle it with good results.

Do this one wrong and the frustrations will mount with stalling and idle problems.

Regards,

JNeteler

I don't think you have a Freudenberg?

JNeteler - Yeah my car has been sitting around for a long time (maybe five years), you have a good point saying that over here I might not be able to tackle it which is very true.

I'll definitely take a look at LUK's DMF then. Will post the link to what I decide to order here eventually.

darth: "I don't think you have a Freudenberg?" < I don't quite get that.

If the mirrors on your car are any indication of the year, your car came from the factory with a LUK flywheel. Prior years had the a Freudenberg flywheel which had more problems apparently.
