Default Primary or secondary bypass

Looking to get a better sound out of my exhaust system and would like to know with which mod I should go Primary or secondary bypass?

Thanks for your help.

Losing the primary (across the tail) has many advantages and few disadvantages. The cost of the bypass pipe is low. The weight saved is beneficial. The sound obtained is louder and throatier, but still streetable (and only rarely sets off adjacent car alarms). It's simple to try and is easily reversible.

I'd suggest a Primary bypass. :-)

Secondary is too loud for some tracks....Get a primary.
Checkout Maxspeed motorsort.
Just received mine and it looks to be WELL made.
I also have the DANSK (same quality)secondary bypass that I will be removing soon.

so a primary bypass isnt as loud as a G pipe? My G pipe doesnt seem loud at all unless you are in a tunnel.

Correct, the primary is quieter and provides more weight savings exactly where you need it.

The secondary is louder (I prefer the sound), easier to install, but although it does provide weight savings, it does less so than the primary. 99.9% of drivers won't notice it anyway.

Difference in weight between the two is negligible (less than 2lbs I believe) and the sound I've got now with the secondary bypass is so much nicer although louder. The primary bypass sound also used to get a lot of compliments.

Performance-wise, I doubt they are much different however my local specialist felt that the secondary muffler was a little more restrictive. As a bonus for those of us with RHD cars it's removes some weight from the right hand side balancing it a little more against the driver's weight.

Bottom line is that you will be happy with either choice.

I've tried it both ways and the Primary is the one to replace. Not quite as loud as the G-Pipe, but loud enough!

The last 2 RSAs I did we removed the primary and seconary mufflers. We just installed a single small Dynomax Ultraflow stainless race muffler across the area where the primary sat. Still a little quiet for my taste, but it only added back in a few lbs over the 2 HEAVY mufflers.... Performance was inproved as there was still a little back pressure.

Bob,

Any sound clips of this install? Which Dynomax did you use?

I had a G-pipe and removed it as it droned too much.

I now have a high-flow (100 cell) cat and primary bypass. Removes some weight from the right area and I have had many compliments (on the street and track) about how great it sounds.

I just got a second hand long neck g-pipe for £40 as my secondary muffler was split - no idea what the comparison is like with primamry removal but when i fired the engine up for the first (and second and thrid time) i felt like a kid in a sweet shop! the sound for me is awesome, and is more like what i think a 964 should sound like.

I have the primary with stock cat and secondary. It is quiet enough to sneak out of my town house cluster without complaints from the neighbors. It makes a great sound at WOT. The secondary incorporates the splash shield for the right rear wheel well. Keeping water and gravel out of that area was a factor in my decision also.

I have a Shubert bypass. When I got it for my 964 I was told it was made for DP Motorsports. Small resonator in center section so it may allow use of G-Pipe as well and still not be too loud. It was on my 964 for about 3 years, under 5000 miles. Went back to school and then moved to a 993 last year. Have other 964 stuff I need to get pics of to sell.

There doesn't seem to be a huge difference in performace between the two. Since the secondary mufflers seem to split fairly frequently anyway, why not replace the part most likely to fail with something that will last?

People seem to like the sound of my '93 C4 with the g-pipe too.
