Default Tips on replacing alternator

My fan was cracked so I decided to replace my fan and fan bearing. I read somewhere that this would be a good time to replace the alternator bearings and voltage regulator. So I removed the alternator and had it refurbished. However, reattaching the alternator back in the car is almost impossible. I’m having enormous difficulty reattaching the alternator fan cover and properly seating the grommet that covers the alternator wires. All the parts just do not seem to want to lineup. I am thinking that there is a proper way to bend the wire bundle in some manner which will allow everything to line up. There is so little play in the wire bundle that the bend will need to be done before attaching the wire bundle back to the alternator. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! The space is so tight to work that It’s even hard to take pictures.

Getting it back in the car is no fun. You need to reattach it with the alternator/fan housing tilted. Here are some photos from when I did it last:

Thanks Dave. I am able to reattach the wires, but can't align the grommet, housing, and alternator fan cover properly. Man, this is going to take some patience!! I was hoping there was a trick or special way to do this. I can't imagine the Porsche dealerships struggling this much placing the alternator back on the motor.

Try a small amount of liquid dish soap on the grommet as a lube. That may help.

Thanks Cjoenck and Nyx! I have been short on time but hope to get back to the car in a couple weeks.
