No o-ring. Only metal-to-metal.

Well, I got the valve cover back on with a new gasket, everything buttoned up, ran the engine for about 20 min, and it is dry as a bone. The new gasket I bought looked a lot better quality than the old one ( only 1 1/2 year old), so I quess that was the problem, a shi..y gasket. And another problem solved, time for a beverage.
