You will need a Federal EPA compliance certificate if your emissions inspector sees non-standard parts. I doubt Fabspeed has done the 50,000-mile durability test or completed the other requirements for getting certified. Their advertisment says "off road only". Atlanta has serious air quality problems and therefore has a strict enforcement policy partly to keep the EPA satisfied that they are trying. Worse, our pre-OBD II cars need to be inspected at a station with a roller-dyno. These are few and far between, and tend to be "by the book" places since they invested in the expensive equipment and don't want to lose their certificates. I take mine to Finish Line in Forest Park. I have asked. Greg knows what factory parts look like, and will not approve non-certified after-market systems.
Good to Know....Thank You for the input....Luckily I did not have that system installed while we were still up north.
I guess that I will stay with my Fabspeed primary bypass and call it a day.

Hi Everyone, I know you have all being waiting for an answer and information and I have one. First I want to thank Scott 964cab for being so kind of allowing Fabspeed to use his car for the final R&D and fitment. I want to also thank all you members for being patient while we did everything to rectify the problem and improve the fitment and aesthetics of the header muffler kit. Below are the pictures of the newly designed pieces that will be offered with the system. The tips are going to be an additional charge if you would like them and I will tell you, they look great.

Now I want to let you know that Scotty964 car was not totally stock when we Dyno the car, the car already had a primary muffler bypass pipe which alone makes about 8-10+ HP to the wheels which is how we dyno tested the car. So the power gains we are making are over the Bypass pipe results. The car made 228.31 Horsepower and 220.41 Ft Lbs of Torque before the header muffler kit. With the new Header and Muffler installed it made 243.81 HP and 232.65 Ft. Lbs Torque to the wheels which is an additional 15.5 HP and 12.24 Ft Lbs of Torque. So if you incorporate the results of the Primary Bypass pipe alone which is 8-10HP, the Header muffler will make about 24+ HP to the wheels. Dyno Results and photos below. We also did a run with the Headers and muffler bypass pipes which was loud and proud and it came up with 2-3+ HP and 10+ FT Lbs of Torque. It really made some good HP at the top with straight pipes.

The new included heater pieces make for an even easier installation and reuse all the factory rubber hoses, so no adapaters or extra peices, just a direct bolt on to the factory setup. This really gives you space between the muffler and the new heater duct to eliminate any kind of fitment problems. And finally the new 4.5 Oval Rolled edge tips just finish off the entire system, making the car look more aggresive. Take a look below for all the updated photos and videos and also check out Fabspeed.com for all Information and Videos. Let me know if you have any questions and Wachuko, I sent all the new pieces today so you will have it before the weekend.

Thanks again,

Interesting, thanks for posting.

This system makes around 15.5 hp more than Scott’s setup….so if Scott had a cat bypass also (as I do) then it would only be a 3.5 hp (12 hp gained according to Fabspeed’s site, although IIRC Tom W found 14 from a cat bypass) gain from the FS headers and muffler vs. the stock headers w/ a secondary muffler and primary and cat bypassed….IF my logic is correct.

Running straight pipes would only be another 2-3 hp (although IIRC me losing the secondary is worth 6 rwhp, although on a B&B motor w/ cup chip) so really I don’t see much from the headers alone vs the stock heat exchangers….unless I am missing something.

This is what I have been waiting for….some kind of test against 964 headers and I really don’t see that much of an advantage to aftermarket headers….although lots to be gained through exhaust/bypass changes.

Am I missing something? I have been searching the archives for header info for a while and couldn’t find any proof for gains w/ B&B either….and IIRC when David K put on his SCARGOs ($$$) he didn’t gain power or torque either, just had the torque come on earlier, which is helpful…esp w/ stock gearing….although for the money I’m not sure. Bob Scotto commented that the stock headers/heat exchangers were quite good a few years back and it looks like he is right.

The big gain I see from the Fabspeed headers is weight loss, about 10 lbs w/ heat and around 15 lbs w/o heat. Maybe if you have a non-stock motor (different cams etc.) headers would make more of a difference?

And the video on the straight pipes does not give you the sense of how loud that setup is... I drove around like that and I could see the neighboors reaching out for the HOA complaint form...

Sounds excellent......I actually like it better this way...... rather than bypassing the muffler.

Can the header system have it with heat and sport cat"s???????

When that kit is available with two 100 cell cats I would jump on it. The Governator no like cars with no cats here in CA...!

We also designed the system with 200 cell Sport cats and everything else so everyone who needs to pass emission testing can do so. The system won't be available till probably the end of this month but it looked really nice on the car and will comply with all emissions and inspection requirements. We only modified the headers and added the cats so the rest of the system stays the same. Let me know if you have any questions and we will start making up the new Sport cat systems soon.

Thanks,

Thats great news......It may be something that I might be interested in...I would rather go with the FVD driver side rear valence than cut out the rear bumper....

Or ....can the system be run with the tailpipe exposed on the passengfer side and the driver side capped off or hidden.???

Hi Cobra, yes we can provide a cap off for the drivers side but it will choke the dual outlet header and dual inlet muffler, so you will lose some power and torque and also sound with it only dumping out the passenger side. But we can do it and I have had other customers who have done it. We provide a cut out template for the bumper when you purchase the system so it tells you exactly where to cut out with guide lines incase you would like to do it.

Thanks,
