Default Rennspeed front spoiler opinions

I'm looking at the Rennspeed 964 C2 GT-2 Front Spoiler W/Pan on my RS America Race Car in conjuction with the 3.8 RSR Tail that is already on the car.

http://www.rennspd.com/P_Detail.asp?PID=433&Task=STD

Any opinions on the quality of the fiberglass on their products. The price seems reasonable.

Thanks,

JF

I'm just now about to retrieve RennSpeed 3.8 RSR splitter and Getty Ducktail from best pal who owns a shop for Porsche, MB, BMW collision, repair & resto. While he's normally VERY leery of aftermarket parts in general, owing to the inordinate amount of prep time that usually goes into them to get them to a point where they can be made to look OE, he's on record as having been impressed with the quality of Getty's Ducktail and the aforementioned splitter. Both were very good in readiness for finishing and largely devoid of the dreaded pin-holes that will show themselves upon first prime coat. My own experience is that you've chosen wisely. My decision on Getty tail was born of counsel from LA964RS here, and I'd heard good rumblings on RennSpeed front parts, assuming you stay clear of the multi-piece add-on (over OE "bat-wings") spitters. Seems people have had a great deal of issues finessing those.

Thanks for your reply, I currently have the lower ruf type lip that bolts to the lower valance both of which are damaged. So going to a one piece spoiler and valance makes sense at this point. Mine is a race car with race car standard paint so as long as the fit is decent that will work for me. I'll probably end up refinishing it ever 2 seasons.

I think that it looks out of place on the car, too low, too wide, and too much flip----it doesnt flow with the rockers/or the rear bumper of the car, their 2 piece splitter that is small and subtle is a different story.

Pelican's discussion

Personally, I'm with PC964. But I think it actually performs well at the track according to some fellows at Pelican's board.

Mine works great! ...Peter (Rennspeed) made mine in white gelcoat so when it chips it doesn't look like hell.

As for "flow" with bumpers, fenders, etc. - if you're not a fan of the look, you probably don't like the 3.8RS tails either - I didn't for awhile but the functionality at the track is TOPS...and the look "grew" on me.

Your car can pull it off, if you are racing the car full time, by all means go with whats functional....but you car looks like a cup car, club car, etc---has the rest of the look to pull it off, otherwise its outta place on a narrow 964

I agree, a street-driven 964 might look a little "odd" with a GT2 "Bowplane" Splitter indeed...but coupled with a 3.8RS tail and it seems not so out of place. I spent quite a bit of thought and concern with how all this would look but in the end it was the "balance" of going "BIG" on each end that I think works out.

Yes, at the track, functionality is KEY - but I place some importance on making the car look good too.

Indeed...now let's VOTE on which color it should be, blue or silver??

I vote BLUE!! ...with the black gelcoat these normally come in, the chips won't look as bad as if painted silver with black chips.

Jeff:

Color input most welcome. I had been thinking the same thing regarding the paint chip problem and I will be having the front bumper refinished at the same time.

Jeff:

What did you do about the under valance grills on the left and right side? Cut holes and cover with mesh?

Thanks,

JF

I cut holes...but never did the mesh...I figured WHY?? ...it's a track car...plus it's like winning the lottery sometimes when I reach up in there! ...ya never know what you're going to pull out.
