Default Cabriolet hood

Hi all,
Just taken ownership of 1990 C2 cabriolet and absolutely loving it.
Starting off with a thorough clean throughout and sorting out all the little niggling problems. One I have is that the engine lid fouls on the rear of the cabriolet hood when opening. Is this usual or does the hood need adjusting in some way?
Probably first of many questions as I 'find my way'.
Thanks.

My engine cover will touch the cab roof when I open it. I have gotten into the habit of holding the roof lip down when I open the engine compartment. Is it true for all cabs? Not sure.

MIne does the same thing (catches on the roof lip). I asked this question a while back and everyone said the same also. I do the same and hold the lip down when I pop the hood.

David, you drive with the top down without the cover? I need one for my car and have been afraid to put the top down and drive without it, due to the o/m saying the top will be damaged. Have you had any problems?

+1. Seems to be normal for our cars.

And where are the photos?

I drive at moderate speeds up to 50 or so and have had no problems with the top in 6 years of ownership not using the cover. Its the headliner that can get beat up.

Default Top Hood

I run my car with and without the cover. My engine lid does not catch on the cover at any time. 'Normal' for me is no interference.

Without the cover, venturi effect will tend to lift the top at speeds over 100 mph. Although it doesn't go very far because of the geared linkage, I can understand Porsche would not want you to do that very often.

Interesting. When I was shopping for my 964, I looked at two different cabs that both did this. Mine doesn't, but the top was replaced. The workmanship on the most of the install isn't fantastic, but they at least seemed to have found a way to get around the interference with the engine lid. I don't think there is an issue when the boot cover is on with the top down either.

Just know that the wind is harsh on the top without the boot. When you take it for a spin carefuly and without crashing, look at how the top flaps with the wind... that is additional tear and wear that the boot prevents.

Perfectly normal. Just run your thumb along the fabric, gently pushing it under the lip of the hood as it raises.

Check out page 65 of your owner's manual regarding driving with the top down without the cover.

And you must post some pics.
