Default RS WHEELS---WHAT ARE THESE WORTH ?

Forgive me if I am wrong about which wheels these are, I am still learning the ins and outs.

I came across a VW guy with this set of wheels painted lime green (would be cool if I had a black coupe with lime green carrera script), comes with 3 good tires, and one blown tire, all wheels are in great condition and would be powdercoated back to silver, or black and the tire replaced.

Can someone tell me what a set of these wheels are worth?

Thanks guys

If they are Cup 1's (originals) that helps. If you can find it, look for the part numbers on the rim. There should also be offset numbers near the valve stem. The widths are important too. 7s and 8s are pretty common, but 9s are desirable.

Green? For the right person that could be a bonus, but hard to tell.

I paid $1500 for a set of perfect Cup 1s 7/8s with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports, and center caps, FWIW.

I dont think they are OE Cups; the spokes and the wheel nut holes look like the Mille Miglia repros to me. tbennet is right about checking for the offset number stamped next to the valve stems; genuine items have them, the copies don't. If you want real RS magnesium Cups, there is a set on ebay.de for 5,000 Euros!

Okay, I believe that the rears are wider than the front, and the fronts are 8's if that means anything. If I can pick them up for $700, should I jump on it?

The seller says that they are OEM, hes local so I would pick them up, he knows I am a porsche enthusiast, so hopefully he isnt dumb enough to try to rip me off. I will ask about the number by the stem, but he claims completely OEM

confirmed 17x8 and 17x9, they were for a vw, jeezus lol.....

I am goign to look at them tonight, again he says they are oem, and all the numbers are there...tires are stretched, a little poke, but with my suspension coming in, and the color redone, it should look alright as a 2nd wheel.

$700 a good deal?

IMO, $700 is a reasonable deal for OE. I've looked at a couple replicas and they wanted anywhere from 500-700 and then they would need to be shipped. The shipping was the issue that drove the price too high (~$200 to ship).

I question the deal, bc the guy is younger and is in the VW scene, probably doesnt know OEM.

The front offset is 52, the rear offset is 47. The wheels are mint, and the front and back tires are both about 90% he says, with one front blown tire that I would replace.

I am running 8 wide front, and 10 wide rear right now, so I would need to compensate for an aggressive fitment right? hows that offset work out?

I have Cup I's replicas, and the photo looks just like mine. The reps have a very flat outer facing flange. Orignals have more of a radius on this face, and also larger radii in all the blending corners. They're very unlikely to be RS magnesium versons.

If they are real RS wheels they'll have 'Magnesium' and 'Made by SM' on the rims.

I wasnt thinking they were necessarily the magnesium, sorry for the incorrect title...I simply meant cup 1, the non magnesium ones.

I will read the numbers off tonight, if they are replicas, and I offer $500 tires/wheels----would that be a good deal for me?

$700 for oem 8s & 9s Cup 1s is a very good price. And not ALL oem Cup 1s had the offset and width on either side of the valve stems. Most do, but not ALL. Not sure why. But they all have the correct 964 part number on the inside of the wheel.

Another thing to look for is damaged (bored out) bolt holes that are victims of inappropriate use of air guns.

Of course, you also want to make sure they are straight.

they are replicas with those offsets...

I paid £400 (about the same as you) for a set of turbo twist reps with good tyres as a guide...

Believe the correct offset for 8s & 9s is 52 and 55.
