993 wishbones on 964?

Has anyone fitted 993 wishbones to their 964? I understand that the ball joint bolt on the wishbone is a different size. So can 993 ball joints be used or does that just move the problem to the upright? What about drilling out the hole on the 964 ball joint to take the 993 wishbone? Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks
Steve

993 wishbone can be used. To make it work, you can press the stud on the control arm and put the 964 stud in it. Then the 964 ball joint will work. The other way to do it is to leave the stud alone and use a 993 ball joint. That was the route that I went. Good luck.

advantage(s)?...

I'm going to guess the advantage is availability. Mine was a case of I needed one 4 days before a de, so I got what I could. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the stud.

copy, that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I wouldn't be suprised if my ball joints need replacing too so I might try that. Availability is the advantage here too.

So to be clear - can a 993 ball joint be used on a 964 with stock 964 control arms? Availability is one issue - cost is the other - 993 joints are $30 less each.

No. Iirc the ball joint is different. Where the ball joint presses into the knuckle is shapeddifferently, has a wider taper, I think. The control arms can be made to fit, but not the ball joints. I went to the 993 ball joints when I went to the 993 knuckles.
