Actually Rob, new ones still look rather 'pink'. I honestly think painted ones look better if done right. (I also wonder what a new center reflector costs this week?!)

The concept is that this is a easy method to improve the red color and look of the tail lights.
Is an application that requires no sanding, no painting, no polishing and can be removed easily-
Time to install - less than an hour -
Thanks for the help - have enough folks that will test product-
Hope to ship test samples within the next two weeks -
Will provide feed back as it comes in -

Default Good Comparison / old to application

Here are to shots of the old right tail light as it was - and the same tail light with the application applied - Less than 15 minutes to apply
I think you can see what it does clearly-

Sorry but I just cannot imagine this would look good long term, honestly. Painting is easy, takes very little time, looks better than the original and is very, very rewarding as a DIY.

I do appreciate you being a guinea pig however Gus and coming up with an alternative. Its what this board is about. Vinyl film though is just horrid imo. If I went to look at a car for sale and saw they had stuck film over the lenses rather than having them repainted I would wonder what other cheap fixes they had employed and walk away immediately...

(Sorry for sounding such a killjoy..just my $0.02)

I don't see protectant film as detriment to sale's value.

I had my car's front custom wrapped in 3M clear bra at ModernImage in Miramar.
(I only did the front because that's all I could afford/justify against likely rock chips.)

But there were Daddy-Warbucks lined up to have their cars cocooned in the stuff. (That cost blew my mind!)
Tail lights, included.

(Those I saw while there, one black & one orange GT3 RS, Mclaren SLR, some FeeRaree thingawhosi.

Unfortunately, that black GT3 RS was consumed in San Diego's fires last year. Protectant film only takes ya so far... And that's a Ferrari airbox you see in the foreground.)

They should make entire cars out of Ferrari airbox material (just like planes should be made out of the same stuff they use for their black boxes )

edit correction: replace airbox with muffler!

A question for all manners of re-redding the tail lights:
What happens to the clear/white reverse light? (now red)
Is this the one common, unavoidable downside?

I have thought about this because I will be spraying mine when the car comes back. My thoughts were to mask off the reverse light for all but the last coat of the red tinting spray. That way you still get the red colour match to the rest of the tail light without the depth of many layers to distort the light from the bulb.

Lonnie, I don't think you understood my post. These are two totally different applications that suggest very different owner attitudes.

The lights shone through perfectly on mine after painting (I think theres a picture in the thread linked above..or it might have been purged by now).

Make sure you get the proper paint that's intended for the job. I recall seeing the results using a paint not intended for the application and it was pretty awful!

Buying new ones is expensive and only defers the problem as well .

Fair enough but the same might apply to someone else who finds out instead of replacing, you painted the lenses.

Mine are so cracked that not even putting tape over them will make it better... I need a complete new set...
