1991 Red/Black Targa 56k miles Price check
any help would be appreciated
Red/Black Targa 1991. 56k miles. Asking $32k.
Near perfect exterior. Few rock chips. Small crack on the outer ring of the tail. Pristine top. New brakes. New tires. Just had 60k service and valve adjustments, new belts, hoses at cost of 6k. New radio $2k. 80%near new interior. Fully adjustable seats. No leather crack.
Had fly wheel done at 23k miles. Some kind of master cylinder done at 6k mile under warranty (told that this has to be done for 964).
Four owners. First three were in the family. Last owner bought it 4 years ago for $25k at 52k miles. Last ower put on 4k miles in four years. He put in about $10k (including $6k job above) of maintenance over past four years.
Has not had a compression test but the car drives perfect with plenty of power.
Perfect maintenance log and records dating back to 1991. The original sales receipt and window sticker are still with the car!
Is the car worth $32k? I am thinking more like $27k. I want to be fair and I don't want to low ball the guy. I do love the car.

Three Wheelin'
I bought virtually the same car 2 1/2 years ago for $23K. Same miles & condition, same service and records. only diff might be that my interior is about a 95%, but I don't have a new radio. 964 pricing is crazy and all over the map, but his $32K is over the top. That's well into 993 territory. I'd say an offer of $25K would be very reasonable, but he might not take it. If he waits long enough, he might get $27K. But on the other hand, if you search long enough, you could probably find the same car for $22K.

I hate to say this, but I think your offer is WAY to much, and his/her asking price is WAY WAY too much--unless you pay $27K for it.. These car are, of course, worth what the sellers can get for them, and if it brings more than $22-$23K, the seller will be very, very fortunate (pun intended). It is, after all, a 15+ year old car, and the 964 will never achieve "classic" status. How long has it been on the market? If you wait the seller out, I have no doubt that the price will come down, and down, and down. Also, what about the head gasket problem--if this has not been addressed the price, even at $22-$23K, is all the more excessive. Sorry . . .

I would hit him for 22K to scare him. Let him think about it (tell him to call with any offers). Scoop it at 25K. After the inspection.

I am offering $27k if the car is perfect on PPI and if Bob Grisby (RMCool Auto) in Sunnyvale, CA says it is a good buy. He is still thinking about it. Haven't heard from him. I am willing to pay $27k for a perfect car. I doubt that Bob will give thumbs up.

Incidentally I have my next car located and am waiting to purchase it once my settlement is paid. This car would have been for a friend who is desperate to buy a nice 964 cab.
