Check your ground to the starter/engine.

Starter motor / solenoid stuck.

When it happened to me, the RAC man hit it with a big hammer - which freed it up. It allowed me to drive the car to the mechanic and pay lots of money for a new one.

Probably worth checking the connections to the starter - might be loose?

I don't want to hijack your thread but this reminds me of when I called the breakdown out for a jump start at a petrol station because my car wouldn't start. Turned out I hadn't locked and unlocked after filling to turn off the immobiliser. A mixture of paranoia about the battery and jet lag (that's my excuse).

It was the battery....not holding charge....new one fitted.....so rapid clicking may not be solenoid/starter motor problem.

So good news as I'd assumed the worst ie new starter motor!
