Off topic 500hp story

So a guy at work has a mitsubishi evolution and he took me for a ride. Im not much for ricer car but wow. He has bigger cams and runs methanol above 10 pounds of boost. He had a dyno of 420hp with AWD. This car had little lag and would GO. Point of the story is Im thinking of a supercharger for my 964 for a little more push. Any ideas.

It's just money, right?

What was the top speed for his car and how often does he need to stop for fuel ?

I would highly recommend a supercharger :) But I luckly bought a car that has one hehehe

With that said however you won't be able to keep up with a tuned evo or sti. They will just eat you alive on the track (and the road). Friends son had a tweaked evo and it was a ball to ride in but just had no character (unlike say a 964).

My favorite memory (and I have told a few here about it) with my car was coming on the front stretch at lime rock with a 997 turbo in front of me. Guy looks in his mirror sees a 17 year old car in his mirror and puts his foot to the floor. I didn't get any smaller :) I could almost keep up with him. That made all the heartache of having a fussy car go away in an instant.

I have no idea on the top end (wikipedia says 174mph), but I have certainly pointed by enough of them both entering and exiting corners that they got me beat. Mind you I am far from a great driver, but I have yet to be able to keep up with a tuned one on the track.

So how many 964 people out there have superchargers, anyway--and what is the going word on them as a performance mod?

Over here in Europe as well as Asia all the Group N rally cars are readily available, they have to be for manufacturers to qualify to compete - A 400 bhp 175 mph + Group N road going car is not uncommon

In fact power is pretty limitless because you don't have to run a 34mm induction restrictor, as per FIA reg's. My Lancia Integrale Evo from 1994 ran 290bhp(from 210 standard) with just a chip change... but they all drink fuel, think 8 maybe 10 mpg.

Footnote: Back in the group B days, thats up to 1986 a Lancia S4(turbo and supercharged) put in a few laps at the Portuguese GP circuit, just for fun. For the F1 race that year it would have qualified 8th!

I wanna say 160ish altough Ive seen higher #s posted. He gets 13mpg putting around town and nothing if he is boosting hard. quater mile was in the low 11s

On a Talladega / Daytona type outing ,
I will pass him when he is in the pits getting gas .

Doing more with less hp ...
"Porsche’s "Type 547" engine, designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann was standard fare for all other 550s.
The unit was very advanced for its day, as it had four camshafts that were all driven by the crankshaft, helping provide 110 bhp (very strong for a vehicle of such light weight). With the quad-cam engine powering it, the Porsche 550 Spyder was capable of performance very comparable to—and in many cases better than — Ferrari and Jaguar models with larger engines. "

As i understand a supercharger installation removes the rear blower and cruse control. That may not be a problem, if it is or you want more Hp try a Turbo installation.
Either way, its lots of fun

Supercharger

Hello,

Just bought a 91 964 C4 with the TPC Supercharger Kit w/Intercooler on it. It is rated at 430bhp with the 2006 software and intercooler. My best friend has an 04 GT3 and another friend has a similarly modified Evo VIII MR. I have riden in the Evo and I was impressed but it lacked some top end over 120mph. I will be at the Zone 2 VIR with both of them so I will see how I do against them on the track. I will have data from the G2X from all 3 cars and will be able to compare them.

I am north of Baltimore, MD and anyone who wants a ride in a 964 with the TPC package just come one down.

Adam
