Default 964 CAB ROOF CLOSURE QUESTION

Hi Guys,

On my 964 cab when the electric roof closes it hits the panel above the windscreen with quite a thump. I was wondering if this is normal or if there is some sort of damper fitted which may need replacement. I have checked the FAQ but could not find anything.

Any help appreciated!

Mine top comes down hard on my 993 cab. I reach up and ease it down before it drops to soften the closing. No problems with "helping" it.

+1 on the thump. It appears the geometry of the frame causes that whipping motion at the end. Mine sounds like it's hitting rubber, and the seal is good (knock, knock).

ohhh, that thump....yes it hits hard and might be heavy and overengineered like everything german. My top is off most of the time. I also dont close it in one big motion. half way then close. One more month and I can run topless 24/7.

Default +2 on the thump

In fact, the service advisor at a the place I get it worked on remarked that this is normal. He even counseled me to put my hand up there to try and stop the thump. I may try something but not my hand!

Mine did this initially. Tightening the 19mm bolts that secure the side arms to the wormgear solved this. There are 2 panels on the sides where the seat belts are; behind this is the wormgear mechanism that raises and lowers the roof.

Try raising your roof to the vertical position and then checking for play in the leading edge. Mine had about 4-6" before I tightened the bolts on the side.

Good luck

You can check locations (position) of microswitches.
