Default Anybody do a DIY for 964 spark plug change?

Gang,

New to this forum but longtime 964 owner (Linen Metallic '89 C4). I was wondering whether there was a DIY on changing the spark plugs. Access is such a problem for us guys with big(ger) hands, so I was wondering if anyone did a DIY on this common subject so I can learn a better way to change plugs than I have been doing.

Besides, bloody knuckles are not nearly as attractive as I thought they'd be..

The only one I really had trouble with was the one near the power stearing pump.

I have some extensions that lock onto the socket via a popout ball. They worked great, as no matter how much I fiddled the socket never fell off the extension.

My daughter is 4 months old and I am looking forward to her motor skills improving so that she can help daddy in these tight places.

One thing you want to have is a pivoting spark plug socket, that will hold the plugs firmly. If you have the original tool from the Porsche tool kit, it works well. It's got a female spline end, so I took a 3/8th inch 10MM socket, and epoxied a male spline into the 10 MM side. You can now use it with a 3/8ths inch ratchet.

I used a 3/8" ratchet drive and a magnetic spark-plug socket plus two 3-inch extensions with a universal between them. That let the socket and extensions snake around the obstructions and get on the plug. With that tool, the #6 top plug is no more trouble than the others.

Can you show us a picture of what it looks like?
