Default like some silverish snow leopard in wait...

Dave-

Nice picture on the street.
Yours looked as though ready to pounce from its crouched position along the street/path.
Gave me a smile. (Watch out prey!)

WRT block heaters,
I don't use one on mine and I've driven in -40 weather. Even when it's that cold it seems to fire right up although it may stumble on idle for a minute or two. I do have a heating element that can be attached underneath the car but have never used it (like one of those magnetic external block heaters but it clips on). I have heard of heating pads that you can sort of wrap around the oil reservoir but have never seen one for sale or advertised.

The one cold issue I have is that power steering pump makes a hell of a racket when it is really cold. I don't lose any functionality of the steering, just the noise. Any ideas on power steering "antifreeze" or something that makes it quieter? (other than RS power steering delete)
That and the leather seats are damn chillin until the seat heater warms 'em up.

Anybody have advice on either snow or all-weather tires. Suburbs of NY (Westcherster). 90 c4 w 17" RUF wheels. Daily driver. Not planning on driving through a foot of snow but we have occasional days with some snow on the roads before the plows get to it. It seems from above and other threads that a number of people have a second set of wheels. If that makes sense should they be 16"?

I run 17's with Dunlop Winter Sport m2's. Have been very happy, and pretty suprised with how well it gets along.

w.r.t. block heaters, I recall talking to an astronomer who had a VW that they would take from the barracks at their research station up the mountain to where their big *** telescope was located. He told me it got really cold up on the mountain and they had a special dip stick that had a heating element built into it. They would plug the dip stick in at night and it would keep the oil tank warm. Pretty neat idea, but it does not get that cold in Virginia.

On other random cold weather stuff, a friend who worked on the trans Alaskan pipeline told me they never turned off their trucks/loaders/generators. If one did need to be repaired they would build a portable building around it so they could get it all warm enough to work on. If the living quarters caught fire they never tried to fight it with water, they would just jump in a bulldozer and push the burning section away from the rest of the quarters.

Blizzak LM 22 are great tires for the C4. 16s also let you run a narrower tire then the 17" wheels
