Question - Noticed on the web site for the individual throttle bodies that there was info on a stand alone ignition system - http://www.clewett.com/products/ignition/ignit.htm - under ignition system - found this info - see below -
How does a set up like this compare to MOTEC or stock ignition - advantages vs disadvantages -

Info listed:
"XDi and XDi 2 Ignition Kits
Replace your worn out distributor with an Electromotive XDi crank-fired, high-energy, high-resolution ignition and our adapter kit for Porsche. No laptop required for the XDi ignition. Kits include: XDi ignition, wire harness, crank sensor, crank trigger adapter (pulley, trigger wheel, sensor mount, distributor hole plug), and instructions.
The XDi 2 is great for turbos. All settings are laptop programmable, based on boost & RPM, three programmable rev limiters and knock retard.
All kits include:

XDi or XDi 2* ignition
wire harness
crank sensor
crank trigger adapter (pulley, trigger wheel, sensor mount, distributor hole plug)
instructions
*Laptop computer required for XDi 2 ignition"

Gus, the XDi systems are stand alone ignition systems that have their own "ECU" to control ignition timing. They are a useful upgrade for a carbureted engine, but with a total EFI solution, the ECU should be doing the ignition control along with injection control. If you installed this system, you'd have two systems controlling the engine, one to control fuel and one to control the ignition and they would not be linked and knock control would be lost in the case of the stock ECU.

I have a set of those wasted spark electromotive coil packs floating around somewhere (two alloy plates, three twin coils on each), if anyone needs one for spares make me an offer.... :D

Colin, you'd have to pay me to take those things...

Geoffrey - the MOTEC is a complete engine control package vs the XDi which only controls the spark/timing - so MOTEC is still the way to go - just very difficult or impossibel to set up for the average Joe - Thanks for the feed back

Basically, yes...
