US Cup in classifieds

If anyone is looking for a US Cup, there's one for sale in the classifieds. No knowledge of this particular car myself, but they don't come up for sale often.

Looks like a fine car for D/G class . . . wait, C/H class.

$85,000. Is that what these cups are going for?? Man, I thought $60,000 was a long way off. Oh, well. When I sell my 993, I can justify a $55,000 price tag!

For $85k, you get a GTC1 car.

ltc 11-23-2007 08:17 PM

I know that car.
Andy, what are you doing? Mike just sold his Euro Cup and now you?

With those Motons, it can only run in H class. Is this car overpriced?

You think so? If it were running in a Cupcar class, I would agree, but since it's going up against stock and prepared competitors, who are allowed to use any brand of shocks they please, then why would Motons progress this car from G to H? I would think that it would be allowed any of the legal stock mods to remain in G. Isn't that how Steve Patti ran his yellow 964 RS--a D car with Motons?

Hard to say about pricing since so few change hands. I think someone was asking $55K for one earlier this year (in the Chicago area) and it sold in about 20 minutes. It definitely seems to be priced similar to a GTC1 car, as Bob W pointed out, which seems reasonable since they are very similar cars (aside from the street legal stuff).

Hey, Joe,

Have you seen the new PCA rules? 964 cups are no longer in D/G class. The 964 cup cars that used to run in G class (old D class and our current class), due to more accurate horsepower and weight specifications, have now been moved to H class (old C class). The Motons didn't move the 964 cups to prepared; rather, PCA moved them up one class. With the Motons, the car in question can't run in GTC1.

Yeah, Steve used to run his Euro RS in D/G. Now, Corry Turley is racing it in D/G.

That last 2 964 street Cup cars I know of sold for over 100K. I think the current car may have come up for sale before and was imediately pulled off the market. Keep in mind they only made 45 of these. People are importing Euro 964 cars for racing, with the dollar sinking like a rock that ain't gettin any cheaper. Also keep in mind these are street legal, the only other approach is to import a 964 RS and get it federalized also very expensive. These are really terrific street and race cars.

Anyone have any ideas how many Euro Cups are here?
Wasn't there supposed to be a gathering at WGI at one point along with US Cups?

When I first looked, I didn't see the Motons (or any description).

We count them as <20 in the U.S. That's based on being aware of 12-14?

That's right. I was thinking of the proposed grouping which had our cars in there with the US Cups and 964 RS's. Phew! Now all we have to worry about are those lightweight stock RSA's. :(

I think we're on the same sheet, Mark. Aftermarket parts would bounce it out of a spec class (can these US Cups even run GTC1?), otherwise, the stock/prepared rules would apply.

Jeez, did it sell already? Can't seem to find the ad anymore.

It turned out to be a big fizzle.

It's my understanding that at least one does.

hehe

Actually, I think H (old D) looks very even now. Mark and I run similar times at our home track (Summit Point) and I am pretty sure run about the same in a straight line. I am hoping the new rules will encourage 993s on sitting on the sidelines to jump in now that the rules are more even.

All I need is a cage, hans, suit and cutoff switch and I'll be ready (meaning sometime between 2009-2040 $$$). Car is ready otherwise...I have a bar, but it isn't legal. Plan on getting a Hans or similar for 2008 DEs.

On topic, the ad appears to be gone. As much as I love 964 Cups, there is a 993 RSR for $79k that I would rather have (assuming similar condition).
