A 295 in the rear?

I was a scrut at a recent race and saw a NB 964 with a 295 Hoosier stuffed in the rear. Anyone else able to fit a tire that large? It was at the end of the event so I didn't get a chance to measure the rim.

Wow! It will be interesting to know how that was accomplished.

Was he running crazy camber with rolled fenders?
I had trouble fitting 275's with ET45 in the rear until I rolled the fenders.

I had 295 on my widebody with the fenders rolled and the left rear tire still rubbed a tad. So I would say no on a NB.

humm, i'm going to say maybe since Hoosiers tend to run a little smaller than listed and with 2.5 neg or more you "might" get it under there. I have plenty of room with a 275mm rear (less on the right of course but i do not rub anywhere.
you can also run a 245mm on the front (toyo RA-1's) on a NB - there is a 90' C4 here locally with 245/275's

With a widebody no problem -- just do what the factory did and charge the rear swing arms to the narrow body arms.

I run a 295 and it needed a flare to get it in there..............almost 2 inches. They must be running a ton of neg camber to get one under a stock fender...

I run that on my RSA.
It's just a street set-up...
Yokohama AVS & 10" Speedline.
Think the narrower rim is the secret to it fitting.

Question is: does it matter? And I'm talking in context of a stock engine/weight car.

Slantnose! 11-19-2007 04:24 PM

Heh.
Probably not...I did it just for looks.

race911 11-19-2007 04:28 PM

I meant for a race car. Remember hearing chapter and verse from the POC guys on the benefits/drawbacks of 205 v. 225 front tires at Willow.

Slantnose! 11-19-2007 04:34 PM

Understood.
All I know is I run way smaller Hoosiers for autocross and they smoke that the big-tire set up.

maybe the ultimate setup is to run the 235 or 245mm front with the 275 on 17"s
or the 225/265 on 18"s

I use the 235/275 on 17's for AX 15mm spacers in the rear 3mm in front. For track I am enjoying 225/265 on 18's.

Don't forget the 964 is still the last of the hand worked cars. I have seen some cars with quite a variation from one side to the other from the factory so it may depend on the car, what you can fit.

Know it's off-topic some...
FWIW and as funny as it might sound, I've tried 18's & 17's for autocross, but actually found the car is way faster running the 16's off my 951 S.
