I don't think the 996 market has any relevance to the 964 market whatsoever. However, you could make the argument about the 993 market being tied to or affecting the 964 market...

This sounds like one of the biweekly threads on the 993 forum. Dont worry about what it may or may not be worth in a couple of years. Just drive it

Here's where I have to happily disagree with you. They are quite significant in that they are the last model 911 that LOOKS like a 911. That in itself should carry as much value as the 993 being the last air-cooled car. Personally I think that prices have plateaued in that they are selling on condition now, with some costing well into the 20s and there still is a $15k floor to the market unless the car is a really beat.

As great as they are...which is sooo much better than previous models that were more numerous, production-wise.
I've owned a bunch of 60/70/80's 911's...it is not even a horse race. 964s are better, in my mind, in any measure including looks, performance and mechanics.

Sorry...SC's look horribly dated and the 3.2's were a nice bridge to a modern car.

In this situation, I'm more than happy to be wrong. Here's to holding its value!

I'm holding tight. The present housing market is the leading indicator.
Young men with young families and young mortages.

All will fall.

It mirrors what land prices did in the late '70's and into the '80's.
This is just the start. The worst is yet to come.

History is my best friend.

I would also disagree.

Porsche can never and will never build another classic air cooled car.

Regardless of what one thinks of the bulbous 993, the cars of days gone by from a leading car-maker like Porsche can only hold their value and even go up one day.

But what do I care? I am molesting the hell out of mine anyway.

Marc,
You're not old enough to remember much.
Post it again a year from now.
35+years of markets. They never change, nor do peoples ignorance of them.
I rely on it.

Noah - it was meant in jest (hence my winking smiley).

Besides....how old do you think I am??

964s are a bargain for you guys. Over this side of the pond the average price for a good example is £15,000 (which is well over $30,000 in real money). Since buying mine at the start of the year I've kept a keen eye on our 964 market and there is a definite trend upwards . And as for the RS, it has been steadily rising in price for a few years now with the average price (at the current exchange rate) being close on $100,000.

Since buying her car last Februray, my wife has put 10K miles on it including about 15 track days. She did not intend to buy the car as a garage queen and I think the last thing on her mind is depreciation of value when ever she is behind the wheel.

I am sure that the prices will not fall as low as the sky, so enjoy the car while you got it.

Has The 964 Hit The Bottom in Depreciation?

... yes, I believe they have, a while ago. I also agree with LH, they are significant and seem to actually be "catching on" here in the Northeast USA.

I have never been hurt ($) with a "Air/Oil Cooled" Porsche, only those damn water pumpers. I'm on my 5th air cooled car... Sold the others for more than I paid for them.

I don't consider our USD "real" money anymore.

Considering the low price of these cars I agree with others and say just drive it. Who cares if it drops a few thousand in a few years. Consider it the cost of having fun.
